Some of the biggest stars in the poker world are in Macau at the moment. The reason for this is that the Macau High Stakes Challenge, a $258,000 buy-in tournament with an optional rebuy, is starting today, with the winner potentially recieving about $5 million dollars.

The tournament will be played at StarWorld Hotel and Casino's Poker King Club and according to Sam Trickett, 80 players had registered for the tournament yesterday, including Phil Ivey, John Juanda, Erik Seidel, Gus Hansen, Joe Hachem. Trickett will also take part in the tournament. It might be a very expensive week for him if he doesn't get into the money since he just purchased a Ferrari 458 Spider with a price of approximately $257,000.

Does $5m for a $250000 buyin seem just a little off to anyone else?

The total prize pool will be around $20m - so that's 25% of the total.

But it still seems a huge buyin for the potential gains.

These guys will be doing it for the prestige of beating each other however. A lot of respect to be had winning against the best.

i imagine the bankroll you must have if you rebuy into such tourney with your own money (no staking)- lets think- since this is somewhat of a hybrid between mtt and sng due to relatively small entrants field (more sng to be fair)- you should have somewhere around 50-100 buy ins min- which equates in having around $20 millions of a roll at the very min Confused nice

This kind of torneys are only for pro players that are sponsored or for multimiljonairs that wanne gamble.

I don t think there are a lot of players with a bankroll bigger thanm 20 million $.

So it s a little propaganda to keep most of the players dreaming about winning millions of $.

more for the not-realistic poker players (donks)

Now thats a really nice car, i only saw a f430 spider and a 458 coupe so far Big Smile

As for the game the buy in and prizes look pretty fair to me, i mean i saw tournaments that had a similar prize distribution.
