World tennis number one and PokerStars Team SportStars member Rafael Nadal, 27, will play his first-ever live poker tournament next month! According to PokerStars, The 13-time Grand Slam champion will participate in a charity tournament on December 12 in conjunction with European Poker Tour's stop in Prague, Czech Republic.

Several internationally known professional poker players (names will be announced over the coming weeks) will take part in the tournament, so it definitely won't be an easy start to Nadal's live tournament career.

"I have been playing poker online for almost 18 months and now I'm looking forward to the challenge of playing my first live tournament," Nadal said in a statement released by PokerStars.

He added: "It's no secret that I love the competition and that's what I like about poker," he said. "It's a game of skill that requires mental strength and the ability to out-think your opponents and in that way there are similarities to tennis."

Haha tennis season is over and he as nothing else to do but doing his sponsorship contract, I am sure you will see that he will have a logo of pokerstars somewhere around his clothes etc.

Anyway great for pokerstars to get new players this will definitely help, nicely done. And congratulations Nadal for a great season.

I wonder if he has to pay to enter? Must be great to be invited to play in these things knowing its not costing you a penny. Its true that the rich just get richer

He's had one heck of a year in tennis, lets see what he can do at the tables.

I bet during his injury time he was loving it - deposit another $50k on PS and donate my money to someone.

Покер захватывает всё больше игроков! надеюсь у Рафаэля Надаль в покере будет так же хорошо идти игра как и в теннисе!

I think Rafa started to dig this game, i mean i'm sure that his contract involves him to participate to this kind of tournaments and play a number of hands online.

Still, from his statements and interviews i also think that he likes the game which is great for sure Smile

Yes,....it would be VERY interesting to see how Rafa will do in this tourney after being 'groomed' by PokerStars for the last little while...

I'm thinking they'll have some sort of 'Special Nada Rafal' promotion going on at the same time to draw in more prospective players from huge pools of different folks!...! Smile Thumbs Up Dollar
