World tennis number one and PokerStars Team SportStars member Rafael Nadal, 27, will play his first-ever live poker tournament next month! According to PokerStars, The 13-time Grand Slam champion will participate in a charity tournament on December 12 in conjunction with European Poker Tour's stop in Prague, Czech Republic.
Several internationally known professional poker players (names will be announced over the coming weeks) will take part in the tournament, so it definitely won't be an easy start to Nadal's live tournament career.
"I have been playing poker online for almost 18 months and now I'm looking forward to the challenge of playing my first live tournament," Nadal said in a statement released by PokerStars.
He added: "It's no secret that I love the competition and that's what I like about poker," he said. "It's a game of skill that requires mental strength and the ability to out-think your opponents and in that way there are similarities to tennis."
