Former poker pro Annie Duke and Patrick Basham, the author of Gambling: A Healthy Bet, appeared on Fox Business on January 31st,. The two discussed gambling with John Stossel, the host of the show, and pointed out several reasons why online gambling should be legalised in the U.S., and Duke stressed that less than 1 percent of the people have gambling problems compared to alcohol, where 7-9 percent of the people have alcohol related problems.
some great points made there. That state lottery is a complete rip off lol. the government take 50% of your bet and then if you win you get taxed again! absolutely shocking. Excellent interview. Many excellent points were made. I highly recommend watching it. Annie Duke made a particularly good point on the percentage of drinkers with problem versus that of gamblers.
I think it's important that the Poker community push back against harmful stereotypes in the general population.

It's all control and that's what the U.S. government wants to do. They want to control everything someone does, what they do with their money so they can get even more from that person. it's a joke living in the U.S. anymore. My taxes just went up again by $40.00 every week I'm get paid. They're fkin crooks with communist ways.
I also think it would be reasonable to legalize online gambling, not only because of the justifications given by these two (the fact of only a minor percentage of players suffering from addiction) but also due to the fact that the activity involves pro players and legalized poker companies that also develop their activity online. So, if it’s legal live, it should also be legal online. Always with a certain limit, of having to be controlled by an identity that can assume the activity is running according to the same gambling laws applied in the legal live gambling.

It's important that someone push back against the BS that is often trotted out as reasons to ban poker whether it's online or live play even if the person doing it has personal baggage that mkaes them less than ideal as a spokesperson. It would be even better if more of the pros who can get media attention would get more involved in trying to build up the poker community.
Amazing interview. I really agree with Annie's points and think they make perfect sense on pushing back against stereotypes in the poker community. I'd like to see more on this subject.
Wow, just b.c. Epic Poker went bankrupt doesn't mean she robbed anybody. Bankruptcy happens all the time, and she didn't steal any money. Her name needs to be cleared for once and for all.

Heartland owed its charity partner, Disabled Veterans a payment of less than $10,000, which was unfortunately swept up in the bankruptcy filing. Furthermore, Annie made sure the DAV was paid in full immediately post-bankruptcy.
