This year's 10 finalists for the Poker Hall Of Fame were unveiled the other day. Six of ten nominees were players who were nominated to the 2012 Poker Hall Of Fame: Chris Bjorin, Thor Hansen, Jennifer Harman, Scotty Nguyen, David Chiu and Tom McEvoy. The other four nominees were Mike Matusow, Humberto Brenes, Carlos Mortensen and Huck Seed, who had made the top finalists list in 2011.

Later this month 19 living Hall of Fame members and an 18-person media panel will begin voting for their favourite players among the 10 finalists. As always, only two players will be inducted and the criteria the 37 individuals will consider in their vote are as follows:

• A player must have played poker against acknowledged top competition
• Be a minimum of 40 years old at time of nomination
• Played for high stakes
• Played consistently well, gaining the respect of peers
• Stood the test of time
• Or, for non-players, contributed to the overall growth and success of the game of poker, with indelible positive and lasting results.

Surely Scotty and Harman are no brainers.

The rest, some I haven't heard of some are old timer pros like Brenes. Seed has been a class act for years.

Matusow - I can't help but feel his personality will not help him, which is dumb cos it's based on skill etc. Not sure he's ready though, too up and down.

They should have a category for the 'Most Dynamic Player of the Year',....and just default give it to Isildur...! Confused

...or maybe they could have one called "Most Money Lost By One Player",...and again,...just give it to Isildur.... Big Smile Thumbs Up

Why 40? Make it 50, am sure people won't retire in their 40es. Big Smile

Not that I'm trying to make a claim for inclusion in the HOF list but why any specific age?

I didn't start playing poker until waaaaaay after my 50s, never mind 40.

Surely years in the game should be the qualifier maybe 25 years active playing or 30 years.

Yeah ^ active playing time would be a smarter criteria, as it doesn't rule out any middle aged players, while including older players who have started late but still played for decades.

Humberto Brenes the best

is normal to repeat more than half of the players who were nominated last year?
My two favorites to win this year are Mike Matusow and Humberto Brenes great players and great characters. brenes has done a great campaign supported by pokerstars to be there.

Cheers, yeah I agree with the points, you should be recognized by your peers, last a long time, played for high stakes etc..

Only things i do not agree as the age thing, 40 years get you old and you cant always have aged people getting in the hall of fame, there should be some young people. Its just plain discriminatory!

Scotty, Mike and Humberto are definately the top 3 in my mind, but it's pretty hard to choose just one...

The conditions are pretty good in my opinion if the goal is to select people that will take part in a hall of fame.

If someone starts playing at 18 they will only be 45 after 25 years. That's not old.

In fact, compared to me they would be spring chickens.

i wonder what is the criteria for getting in? i am shocked to see that Mike The Mouth is not already in. This man is a poker legend and must be a certainty to enter the hall of fame. Dont worry Mike you are in my hall of fame!!
