According to The Daily Journal, two men received jail terms on Friday for running an illegal poker club at a women's fitness centre in Runnemede, New Jersey.
A judge gave a 364-day jail term to Ryan Dion, 33, and a 270-day term to Thomas Rand, 43. The men must also serve three years of probation. Three other men were also sentenced to probation for working as dealers and cashiers at the poker club.
"It offered up to three Texas Hold'em, no-limit poker games at a time," the state Attorney General's Office said in a statement. "The storefront for the Runnemede Social Club had a sign for the health club ‘Curves,' but inside were three regulation-size poker tables, a ‘cash cage' where poker chips were purchased, and sofas arranged around a large, flat-screen TV."
"The only healthy thing about the purported health club these men ran was their profits," said Elie Honig, director of the state Division of Criminal Justice. "On the night we raided this illegal poker club in March 2014, detectives seized approximately $26,000 from the operators and players."
