3-Way Deal in Tournament Number 900 Million On PokerStars

Posted on 28 April 2014 by "T".

To mark the 900,000,000 poker tournament, PokerStars offered a $109 no-limit hold'em tournament with an amazing $1,000,000 guarantee ($100k in giveaways during the first two hours) yesterday. In total, the tournament attracted 18,711 entrants that generated a total prize pool of $1,871,100.

2,475 players received a slice of the cake (the prize pool) and after many action-filled hours of play, the final three players ended up making a three-way deal according to "ICM"-based figures, which meant that all money was divided between the players - nothing left to play for except the title. "earlgrey23" from Canada eventually won the last hand of tournament. He didn't earn any further cash but, in another hand, he will be remembered as the guy who won PokerStars' 900,000,000th tournament.

Final table results:
1. earlgrey23 (Canada) $152,532.44*
2. PaPakwanto (Netherlands) $176,278.11*
3. Dan "judgedredd13" Charlton (United Kingdom) $153,681.46*
4. djwilo (Australia) $84,199.50
5. ilstmfkraliv (Australia) $65,488.50
6. tatasanjuan (Argentina) $46,777.50
7. acehighdro (Mexico) $28,066.50
8. mikulita (Romania) $16,839.90
9. MCRez (Brazil) $11,226.60

Wow i would have took the deal too, better to give up why ahead and make more money balancing it with the 3 players left when you are tired and just want to go to sleep and you already got a big nice cash. Anyway cheers I wonder whe this will happen to me. Cheers nice piece of news here. And have fun at the tables guys!

This 3-way deal are a good ideo from these players. Better 3 guys win a big prize as one only. And over 18.000 entrants are crazy for a tournament, but this create a big prize pool.

I don't get it.
I remember that the requirement of the deals on FT in Riverstars is always they had to take a certain percent of the money away for the 1stplacewinner, they can only share the rest. So, I still don't get it how could this time be differenet than any other occasion. I know it's a special tourey but it's interesting they wouldn't go with the rulebook.

Winners no longer matter in poker tournaments. It's just about 2-way and 3-way chops. Fucking lame. The chances for alot of players ever getting to that stage in a big big tournament is minimal, therefore when you have a chance to take a bigger win away i.e. one justified by your finishing position, then you should never do a deal.

noonlion, well yea i dont like it either but considering how much luck you need in headsup or even 3 man final table those deal really make sense, even more so to people who are actually there and have to make decision to either gamble or well take sure money.

Because hu really is just a huge gamble most of the time, now if you add too big (imo ofc) prize differences for 1st and lets say 3rd or 4th place, its only natural to expect most people to make deals.

Heck you might be the best player there is, but in hu all it takes is one lost allin and ur done :=p

A great way to end a tournament and who can blame them for making a deal in this situation.I would have bitten their hands off if i had been offered the same deal. Congratulations to all

You can see, that even getting on the final table in such a big tournament won´t bring you that much money (it is "only" 100 buy-ins), the real money is in the top 5, sometimes only in the top 3.

I see the most of the tournamets on which the finalists are not poker pros tend to make deals...

Still that was a very nice payout for those that participated considering that the buy in was so low considering the prizes Smile

looks like bad deal for the winner,he won but made less money than 3rd player
 ddblt197001/05/2014 12:55:39 GMT
I would take the deal all the time (in 4 or less people).

And in a lot of tournaments the people will take the deal, because they want to have their sure money instead of gambling for tens thousands of dollars.

That's a huge prize pool 18000 plus entrants with a Dollar 100 buy in did Poker Stars make or lose money on this tournament with there added prizes hmm the fee alone in profit is Dollar 168399 Poker Stars always coming up with new and interesting promotions and is the biggest online poker site in the world and will remain that way in the future Thumbs Up Thumbs Up Worship Worship

Yeah, it is funny, that PokerStars says it was a huge giveaway,

But they gave back only 2/3 of the rake of this tournament.

^Typical business. Reel you in with some promo making it look incredible while also making sure they get a massive cut out of the whole deal. Well played poker stars.

But if there was no deal, there could be a guy with even bigger prize! Big Smile

But I guess they didn´t want to take more variation.
