Paul Phua, better known as "MalACEsia" playing at Full Tilt Poker's nosebleed tables, and another seven people were arrested over the weekend for allegedly taking part in an illegal betting operation at Caesars Palace.

Phua, 50, and another seven Chinese and Malaysian nationals are alleged of accepting multimillion-dollar illegal bets on 2014 FIFA World Cup games. According to Las Vegas Review-Journal, FBI agents were informed about the illegal operations by Caesars technicians.

Phua's Las Vegas lawyer, David Chesnoff, denied in court late Monday that Phua was linked to organized crime and said Phua was prepared to vigorously fight the charges.

It always amazes me when you see very rich poker players or gamblers get involved in dodgy schemes. These days there are enough legal ways to gamble so why take these kinds of risks or even worse get involved with these sort of mafia type of people.
If you read the whole story you will see that recently the police in Macau found a world cup betting operation with bets worth $645 million and one bet on its' own was for $51 million.I would love to know what that bet was on!

Well they have the money and all poker players are gamblers at heart and thus when they earn a lot and have money to spare and a big event is on they have the money to get their adrenaline up. Anyway hope i can reach that much cash in my lifetime but i will not bet on illegal betting and will invest my money for the future generation of Heskor's lol. Cheers have a nice night guys!

Well this a big problem and it´s damaging the betting world and the sports as well
This famous players caught doing illegal schemes do it not for the adrenaline but for the pure and hard profit.
Why they do it?Maybe to cover some heavy losts at poker or pure greed we as humans always want more

The amounts being talked about with these gamblers are astronomical. If you have got this much money allready why would you gamble? How much money can any man spend in one lifetime!

That's ridiculous, there are people who seem not it is satisfied with the money you already have and still trying to gain more dishonestly determined if it really was true that he pays.

Seems the more you have the more you want.
That's the reason behind all the "rigged" theories going around in poker nowadays in my opinion, and somehow it's understandable. How can you put your complete trust in a system that obviously is filled with so many crooks? Generally speaking crooks are everywhere lol. The problem is they seem to gather more where there's more money involved as well Disagree

I think the accusation is pretty thin if you ask me i i do not think it will hold up...

In the end if you bet with your own money what is the problem, you can do anything with your own money...

its kinda sad how some people can never get enough money... usually its those that have millions that do stupid things to make more money.

imo, greed should be added as a crime too, that would fix so many things so fast Big Smile
