On Tuesday, PokerStars announced that it had signed Japanese celebrity Yuiko Matsukawa as a new brand ambassador. Matsukawa is 24-year-old actress and model who recently received significant public attention in Japan by starring as the heroine of recent release Terrace House Closing Door, a movie based on a reality TV show series about six men and women living in a shared house.

As for poker, she recently participated in PokerStars' Macau Poker Cup in China. She said the following about her experience: "I was honored to participate in a major poker event as a PokerStars brand ambassador. In the beginning, I was a bit nervous, but eventually I found myself enjoying the game in a relaxed mood. I really appreciate my fans that cheered me on during the competition. PokerStars provides us the opportunity to play poker on smartphones and tablets, so you can enjoy games everywhere and anytime. I will continue to brush up my skills for the next tournament. Please wish me luck!"

"PokerStars champions the game of poker around the world and we are eager to promote its growth in Japan," said Eric Hollreiser, Director of Corporate Communications for PokerStars and Amaya, the Montreal-based publicly-listed owner of PokerStars. "Yuiko Matsukawa is an exciting celebrity who has caught the poker bug and wants to share her love of the game with her fans. We look forward to working together to promote poker as an exciting, skill-based game in Japan and beyond."

"Nearly 5% of Japanese adults are addicted to gambling, a rate up to five times that of most other nations, according to a study."

Totally makes sense. Huge market potential, undoubtedly.

Usually pokerstars dont make to much mistake when they take someone as team pro. Yuiko Matsukawa being a well known actress i japan will probably help the site to get moore players from this country. I wish her good luck in her new job and on poker tables. Smile Smile

Let's see if I get this one right - Jokerstars now going after popular reality stars who will serve as human marketing tools to make sure they have presence in a country where besides pachinko gambling is sort of illegal or organized by the Yakuza.
Sure, this is the best way.
