After winning two Spring Championship of Online Poker (SCOOP) titles on Monday and Tuesday last week, we (and probably many others) thought that it would take some time until Jason Mercier would be winning a major online tournament again.
Well, the fact is that it only took a few days before he scored yet another SCOOP title. This time the Team PokerStars Pro bested a field of 398 entries in a $2,100 NL Hold'em tourney (SCOOP event 20 - High) to boost his bankroll with $178,457!
According to PokerStars Blog, Mercier and Ryan "HITTHEPANDA" Franklin paused the tournament to discuss a potential deal shortly after Calvin "cal42688" Anderson had been eliminated in third place.
The two quickly agreed to the following numbers:
Jason Mercier: $170,457.73
Ryan "HITTHEPANDA" Franklin: $152,789.71
Left to play for was "only" $8,000 for the winner along with the title. Although both players had plenty of chips to gamble with, it only took two hands before the tournament came to an end...
"It took five bets pre-flop before Franklin was all-in with a great chance to grab the lead in his efforts to win his first COOP title. His T♠T♦ was well ahead of Mercier's 9♣9♥ and stayed that way on the A♣J♥3♦ flop.
The turn card was a dagger when the 9♦ appeared to leave Franklin with just two outs to stay in the game. He couldn't find either of the remaining Tens in the deck on the river 5♣ to send him out in 2nd place for the agreed amount of $152,789," PokerStars Blog reported.
