Dan Idema, 30, from Vancouver, Canada took home his third WSOP title and $261,774 for topping a very tough field of 376 players in the $3,000 buy-in H.O.R.S.E. event, which was played over a four-day period at the Rio Las Vegas.

"It's right up there," Idema said when asked about how this victory compares to the other two. "Winning your first is always the best, but this is sure nice."

Idema now has 25 cashes at the WSOP, including 8 final table appearances, and 3 victories. Believe it or not but his first WSOP cash occurred only five years ago, and his WSOP earnings now exceed $1.3 million!

OTHER IN-THE-MONEY FINISHERS:

Aside from the final table finishers, other notable players who cashed included - three-time gold bracelet winner Farzad Bonyadi (10th), gold bracelet winner David Benyamine (12th), gold bracelet winner Mike Leah (13th), poker gadfly Allen Kessler (19th), 2005 world poker champion Joe Hachem (22nd), six-time gold bracelet winner Ted Forrest (22nd), and two-time gold bracelet winner Dan Kelly (24th).

FUN FACTS:

There were 361 males and 15 females who entered this event (3.1 percent).

The average age of participants was 42.7 years, which is about 5 years older than the overall tournament average.

There were 88 non-American players in this event. There were 25 different countries represented.

Many congratulations to Daniel Idema on winning this event and the first prize money of $261,774. These H.O.R.S.E. events are the toughest to win so even more kudos to him

Well, he is younger than me and his WSOP cash is already beyond a million. Either I have to start taking poker seriously or else I'll need a Warren Buffet sized trustfund to make my hobby a viable business option for my coming years. Dunno which one would happen sooner tbh.

I find enough problems just learning to play hold em never mind having all these other games to contend with as well though I do find Omaha is great fun to play.
I am missing the WSOP tournaments and having to wait til November for the main event to finish is just way too long.

Tbh I enjoy Omaha (especially Hi/Lo) better than hold'em but the variance is even bigger (or at least it is for me) in the former and this makes it a little bit more stressful.
