Saipan, USA - A 60-year-old male was present in Superior Court for a bail hearing last Tuesday, June 18, after he was arrested for incessantly punching a cashier at a poker establishment due to a dispute over $10.
Augusto T. Aldan, the defendant, cashed out chips worth $40 at 11 p.m. on June 17, 2016 (Friday) at JL Poker in Dandan. The female cashier mistakenly gave him $50. According to casino employee rules, the cashier would be responsible for paying the cash register $10 from her own pocket.
The police was told by the cashier that shortly after midnight of June 18 (Saturday), Mr. Aldan came back to the casino, and that's the time she told him she had mistakenly given him an extra $10 and requested him to hand it back, but he denied receiving the extra money.
The cashier then told him that if he was not going to play, then he could not stay in the poker room. This angered Aldan, and he started pushing her. He then proceeded to land many punches on her face, chest and back, which made the cashier lose consciousness for a moment before another woman tried to rescue her, coming in between her and her assailant. The battered cashier then ran to the cashier's booth and with her cellphone she was able to call 911.
The victim sustained scratches on her right eyebrow, a black eye, and a scratch on her chest. She also complained of pain in her head and upper back.
When the authorities reviewed the CCTV footage, they found the recorded assault and, oddly enough while they were viewing the footage, the suspect re-entered the poker room and therefore was arrested.
Aldan was charged with assault and battery, and also disturbing the peace. They also found the keys to the cashier's booth and the poker room on the suspect when he was arrested, with which they learned the cashier had dropped those keys during the assault.
Upon posting 10% (or $125) of the $1,250 recommended bail while the remaining was posted as an unsecured bond, Aldan has been released. The government did not oppose the motion, and Aldan shall be sentenced at a later date.
