Poker Bot Creator Boasts On Successful Botting Fefore Retiring, Then Retracts Statement

In today's fast-paced world of the ever increasing dynamics of technological advancements, most of us believe that poker bots do exist; however, it is very rare to read about it in the Internet on how they win, what things you need to watch out for, and what it takes to remain undetected when botting, and of course, no one in their right mind would divulge these tactics online for all to see if they want to become truly successful in botting.

However, if you take a moment and read this forum site, you may come to believe ‘themadbotter' and his thread that he created last weekend - telling everyone about his bot's escapades on America's Cardroom (ACR) on the Winning Poker Network (WPN).

A self-confessed "botter" or otherwise known as a poker bot operator, surprised the members on the 2+2 forums last weekend to announce his retirement from successful "botting."

The unknown poster, going by the name "themadbotter", seemed to enjoy the limelight and went on to provide detailed answers to the questions of the forum members, while carefully ignoring bashes from others, in an attempt to offer a candid and intriguing glimpse into the world and mindset of a high-tech poker cheat.

Perhaps it was mostly too candid, because he (let us assume this one's male) might have accidentally revealed his identity and got himself into hot water (we'll delve more on that later).

Themadbotter announced, "I have decided to retire from botting and focus my energy on something more meaningful." This announcement he wrote coincides with the time he withdrew his last funds from America's Card Room (ACR).

TMI Anyone?
Themadbotter made it clear that his confession of poker botting was not because he felt guilty doing the wrong thing, but simply because the effort it takes to make the bot to play well was a "time-consuming endeavor".

He said that his bot was "not merely a plug and play solution", able to win only at the lowest limits, but this was specially coded by himself and that it needed constant perfecting and re-tweaking. He claimed his bot made $30,000 at ACR over a period of 6 months, which he had progressively withdrawn.

He said, "For me, it took me about a week to write a profile that played well enough to beat 10NL and about a month of reworking that profile to beat 50NL at a solid clip. Over the course of the next few months, I steadily improved the bot's performance based on manual review of hand histories and results. Making it play exceptionally well is still extremely time-consuming and it requires a lot of trial runs and hand history reviews."

He also said that a well-constructed bot is difficult to detect. By setting commands such as making it take play breaks, sitting out, among other human-like behavioral patterns that he programmed it to do, the bot appeared entirely real to most other players.

The Sudden Downfall
All things seem to be going well for ‘themadbotter' and his thread, but one sharp poster going by the name NovaCaine, reacted the other way.

NovaCaine wrote, "OP's (opening poster) not as smart as he thinks. Only a couple of regs went mia (missing in action) recently and i got a good hunch who he is. Gonna try to contact a couple other players to confirm my numbers."

Within hours, ACR conducted an investigation, and themadbotter became uneasy saying, "I'm sorry to disappoint you all, I was just bored and wanted to troll. This is why I could not post any proof. I hope that admin can delete this thread so as to not cause undue panic in the players or to unnecessarily slander WPN's reputation. ACR should ask to have this thread deleted since there is no reason why my unfortunate misstep, with no proof or evidence to support any of the allegations in this thread, should unnecessarily cause them financial harm or bring negative publicity."

After that, he was gone, taking with him a lifetime ban (award) from the Winning Poker Network, and so now the curtain closes, leaving us a short but intriguing glimpse of the most rare and shady human-like creatures that exist only in the poker world, the botter.

If this person was getting away with making so much money, why on earth would you go onto a forum and brag about it? I hope he does get caught, if he has done this ,and punished

Poker bots do exist, off course, but we can´t read serious informations about their winnings. I don´t believe, that the bots can winning lontern, because poker was a variable game with a lot of different ways to play.

30.000 over the course of 6 years is not that much of money to be honest, that's ~60K/year, which is 5K/month salary IF the bot is making constant winning and doesn't get caught.... while he admit that it takes a lot of work tweaking the bot, so basically he just owns a job paying him 5K/month... nothing too exciting, but still cool.

There are peoples that are so good to defraud others in any kind of scam that they would never get catch. And they are so sure of they won't.

They thing that they are more intelligent then anyone so they can brag about it in different way to prove their intelligence and never being catch. Then this is when they make a mistake and this is the end.

I suppose that ACR don't have as many reg. like the other big sites and one guy was smart enough to verify them which the botter never though of.

If he had done that on Stars then it would have been more difficult the make this verification and catch him. Smile Smile

what a fool. if he really programed a superior bot then why didnt he run least 10 bots on different sites instead to brag about his small success. either he cant think big or its a made up story.
 teddybears7329/07/2016 23:28:09 GMT
What an idiot whichever way you look at it,as T3ddykgb says why didn't he run a few simultaneously on different sites ? and if he did do it then why brag about it all over the internet ? although he did try and retract it.

Reminds me a bit of the old James Bond movies. The villain braggs about his evel deeds, only to get caught with his hands in the cookie jar, thanks to that free information. Don`t bot and bragg.

It's actually a lot easier to make a winning bot than people assume. Yes, poker is a complex game and a bot is never going to be a MTT beast or anything like that... but it's very simple to make a basic bot than can easily profit at the low level cash tables.

I've made them myself in the past to experiment with push/fold ranges... let them loose on play money sngs and play money cash tables and they've absolutely cleaned up. VERY basic programmed rules... but work very well against basic players.

I learned a lot from them. Very fun too.

one guy at AKR one night when we played the freeroll , he counted about 120 bots , said that they followed several days bots that were 24 hours in tournaments , they usually inactive , or non-stop all in, this terrible upset Angry

This guy is very far from a James Bond villain, but to be honest the poker community is full of desperate people who are willing to jump on any bait/conspiracy theory etc. which suits their narrative about why are they still being loosing players, despite all the time and energy they dedicated to the game which so basic that goddamn computer script could be good enough to play it at a decent level...

i doubt its "that" easy and depends on what you call a winning bot. you can buy so called winning pokerbots online, just like AK47 or drugs. but programming a real good one requires more than basic knowledge in poker and programming.
what did you learn by a pokerbot you programmed your self Confused

I guess it is s a common phenomenon in all walks of life when something is difficult, people tend to put more effort in finding a shortcut. In the near future people might be able to build bots or artificial intelligence that could generate humanlike emotions. Or are humans turning into robots or hybrids eventually?
 marqis31/07/2016 07:26:23 GMT
It doesn't have to be easy to make a profitable bot. Given the reward for creating a "money making machine", someone will build one. Once enough people use them, it will be very hard to make a profit anymore.
So enjoy online poker while it lasts...

Trust me, there are plenty enough people out there who are using something forbidden which helps them make more money on pokersites. But they tend to keep shutting up about it since why would risk their profit with overexposure?

Before pointing a finger or having a go at me, you might want to check the words in bold above.

This news seems to me like somekind of mindtrick although I don´t quite see the point of it. For some reason, I´ve been called a bot several times at the tables. I don´t see why, but that´s just cause I don´t really know all that much about this game. Never really bothered. I´m too lazy.

It was very easy. I had precisely no knowledge of programming or scripting when I began... but eventually managed to make some rather complex alterations.

I learned all about player's calling ranges from and against certain positions. How QQ performs when shoved from SB vs Button vs UTG for example...

I'm sure people who know more about computers would laugh at my scripting... but it worked. And helped me a lot, and is still helping me to this day. The range charts I made because of it are still bang on.

If this was indeed a generic trolling in that forum topic then the reward for the 'troll' was simply seeing how the story unfolds itself by the other users who were sure they know who this guy really was...
