2017 WSOP Player of the Year goes to Chris Ferguson

At this year's WSOP Europe, the WSOP Player of the Year award has officially been awarded to six-time WSOP champion and former Full Tilt co-owner, Chris ‘Jesus' Ferguson.

Before the start of the WSOPE Main Event on November 7, there were only two players remaining with a chance of surpassing Ferguson, and they were John Racener and Ryan Hughes. Hughes got busted on Day 1b which left only Racener, who needed to garner 136 points to surpass Ferguson in the POY race. However, on Day 2, his chance slipped away.

This achievement of Ferguson will definitely infuriate many poker players and fans who strongly feel that he should not deserve, much less compete for such a prestigious honor bestowed in poker right after he chose to remain silent about his involvement in the collapse of Full Tilt which nearly cost his customers several hundred million dollars in embezzled player funds.

However, setting that aside, no one can deny that Ferguson's play over this summer and the past couple of weeks at the Kings Casino in Rozvadov, Czech Republic have definitely earned him the coveted title. In Las Vegas, alongside Racener, he made a whopping record 17 cashes, and this included 2 top four finishes in $10,000 Championship events, ending the series which lead to the POY race that earned him a free entrance to the €10,350 Main Event (though he busted on day 1b). He continued his winning streak at the WSOPE, further making 6 more cashes from the 11 events, including grabbing his 6th career WSOP bracelet in Event #7: €1,650 Pot-Limit Omaha Hi-Lo 8 or Better, and winning €39,289 cash.

Ferguson shall now join the likes of Jason Mercier, and two-time winner Daniel Negreanu as WSOP Player of the Year winner. Along with Greg Merson, he is the only winner to have also won the Main Event, which he won in 2000.

As the 2017 WSOP Player of the Year, Ferguson will then receive a free entry into the $10,000 WSOP Main Event in 2018. He will also have a banner of his image displayed at the Rio alongside his fellow POY winners through the history of WSOP.

This really is a bittersweet moment seeing Chris Ferguson winning this prize. I was always a big fan of Chris, but then the Full Tilt revelations started coming out and that view changed drastically

well this is really a major spit on the faces of all the haters of jesus out there, winning wsop player of the year is quite an achievement, 17 cashes along the way and one bracelet on top of this really is a strong showing at the tables.

Fergusan was a verry good poker player, but after the things with FT some years ago, it was perhaps not the best idea to give him this award. I think the character of a player must also be good for this award. But off course, his poker career are respectabel.

What can you learn from all this? Don't trust eccentric figures. They maybe scammers, pedosexuals or just asking for negative attention with their weird looks. There is nothing wrong with dressing alternative, but when you are NOT a real cowboy and look like a cowboy, that is just weird, maybe then your alarm bells must start ringing. People can not be trusted in general, but just watch out for people who come from a certain background where you know most of them are scammers, because you got enough examples in life, so always be wary. Most people are really naive and can't relate to my advise, well, gl in life!

I do not know about the poker results of Chris Ferguson in 2017 but i know he won 39.289 euro
to a wsop europe tournament and a bracelet with 1650 euro buy-in - Pot Limit Omaha Hi-Lo 8 or Better. I do not think it deserves to be the winner of WSOP Player of the Year award.

Congratulations to Chris Ferguson on winning the 2017 WSOP Player of the Year award! According to the Wikipedia article below, Chris cashed 23 times, final tabled 3 times, and earned US$428,423 in this year's WSOP event. Seriously? 23 times? That must be a record.

Yes this is very good tournament series from chris Ferguson, un wsop europe he was un the money for 17 times, wow this is so good. O dont know how many tournaments he play, but I think he is in the money more than in half of played, so this is really hard to do with so many professional players.

Some people will be very angry with this, especially if they were in for the award
and they hate ferguson Smile But at the end nothing you can do about this.
The decision makers, take in mind game performance only to decide.

I read something on the internet about Daniel Negreanu, Jason Mercier or anothers players who are upset by the fact that Chris Ferguson has managed to win the title of 2017 WSOP Player of the Year and i say they are right. Chris had no notable results this year and does not deserve this title.

well really, does this change anything, so what dude won the title big deal. this doesn't change anything, he will have a ton of haters who will hate him anyway and a lot less of those who support him and will continue to do so in the future no matter what. end of story. he won- good for him I guess.

I like his hat and generally his the appearance of a cowboy ....of course you need to live not by past times but by what happens at the moment ... and at the moment this great player became a player of the year .... and I think he absolutely deserved this title ....and then what was it then passed and it is necessary to live further
