Poker pro selling WSOP bracelet to aid earthquake victims in Italy

Italian poker pro Massimiliano "Max" Pescatori is currently selling his 2015 World Series of Poker Championship bracelet on eBay and will donate the funds as relief for earthquake victims in Amatrice, a town located in central Italy.

The 46-year-old got the idea of selling/donating his WSOP bracelets from Olympian Piotr Malachowski, who sold his silver Olympic medal to help raise funds for a 3-year-old boy suffering from a rare type of cancer. After it was posted on eBay, a billionaire purchased the silver medal privately, and the money helped the boy to undergo the operation he needed.

The bracelet, put up for sale on eBay set at $6,000, is Pescatori's fourth one, which he won from the Stud Hi-Lo World Championship against Stephen Chidwick and Daniel Negreanu. The ad is written in both English and Italian. The WSOP bracelet up for sale is 10K gold and has 12 stones over poker symbols.

In the description of his sale ad, Pescatori wrote, "I'm happy to give this away for a good cause. What makes this item uniqueis that the list of WSOP event winners reads like a ‘Who's Who' of poker."

He hoped the reserve would be a low price and that the item would sell for much more. In the end of the ad he said, "This item is expensive. If you cannot afford to bid, please share with someone that can. Payments need be made with PayPal."

All of the proceeds from the bracelet will go to Capricchia nel Cuore, a charity organization put up by a poker colleague in order to help the devastated town recover after the earthquake struck last year. Currently, the group has bought and delivered mobile homes for the local victims who have lost everything they had in the earthquake.

This is a very nice story and i take my hat off to Max Pescatori for doing this. When you read something like this it gives you a nice warm feeling inside and i hope he can raise a lot of money

This is a good move, medal is just staying in the chest or hangs on the wall and does nothing, only some memories but nothing good, now he can use this money when he sells the medal to do good things for people who need the money very much, very good move.

I believe the WSOP bracelet sale is for a good cause for the victims of last year's earthquake in Italy, Pescatori's home country. My deepest sympathies go out to the victims, their families and friends.

The earthquake in Italia was a horrible event. The sad part is that it will happen more, you want to know how I know this?, it's because in 5 million years there will be no more Mediterranean sea. The earth under it is getting pushed upwards. So in the future there will be more and more earthquakes.

My condolences ✝ go out to all the families and bambinos who suffered from this horrible event! Heart

I can just say congratulation to this player on this move and hope that this will help to people that need this money!maybe this will not be sold for thousands of dollars, but at least he have great gesture and that people see that they are not alone!

just like paris hilton would sell her pantys to be in talk again.

i think if he spend 1% of his win from 2015, it still will be 10 times more as if someone buys his bracelett. sorry, i dont buy it. to me it looks more like someone needs attention.

well yea it is kinda like paris hilton selling "one night in paris" dvd's for the sake of charity... but still whichever way you look at this it's still money that is given away for free to those who are in real need of any financial help at this moment, so in a way it's a win-win situation for both parties involved

great deed !!! an earthquake in Italy is certainly a terrible natural disaster and many people have suffered because of this .. and the money will certainly help someone to survive the consequences of this terrible disaster ... very right thing to do

I congratulate Italian poker pro Massimiliano "Max" Pescatori for such a noble heart, hopefully many could help as it seems .. a good gesture, but if it were I would have auctioned it, maybe more money will be collected .. very well done champion

Michael Owen: "Max Pescatori has 4 bracelets and is selling one bracelet which means that he will have only 3 bracelets left in total"

No seriously, it's a nice gesture from him but I would rather keep the bracelet and give a money donation instead.
 Gerimantas16/02/2017 14:41:14 GMT
Many writers have told very well that this act of selling the bracelet is a little bit not normal and can be told as some sort of self promotion, yes maybe he wants some attention to him, that is not really good when you can donate silently, but at least he is giving something real
 dule-vu16/02/2017 15:19:19 GMT
I hope that this is not self promotion and that he doing this because he really want to help this people!lot of sportsman help on this way, when they sell shirts, shoes or anything to help people and hope that this man doing this for same purpose!

How much this can worth, and im talking real price for the item.
From a search over the net it is low valued and that compared to what he wants to do with the
money.
The only thing he can expect is overbids, due to the nature of the cause.

i dont know exactly how much. all i know: back the days these bracelets were worth 50cent (material value) untill someone complained about it being such a poopy thing Big Smile so it may be worth a bit more now a days ?!
most people who won a olympic medal, trophys or whatever, dont even remember where they put it at. only a few crazy pin it on the wall.
im really excited now and im gonna follow the bid on ebay Smile
 Mober16/02/2017 22:40:45 GMT
Do you have a link for the ebay sell?
Curious to see how much is it now.
 T3ddyKGB16/02/2017 23:06:52 GMT
according to BRM the bracelet is worth 10k ?

http://www.ebay.com/itm/282352467322

11k now.
 Mober16/02/2017 23:20:38 GMT
Starting bid was at 500 and now its closed, sold for 11600 US$.
Not bad. for what its actual value is Smile
 pochui17/02/2017 13:44:43 GMT
well there you go, 11k for a charity cause, sure i prefer those who give the same 11k with no publicity stunts, but there is one point that we have to take into account- by making show out of this, they not only get some attention which they badly crave for, but also raise the awareness of the public to the cause which results in more donations.
 Mober17/02/2017 20:36:29 GMT
You cant say it is some significant amount, like you cant say it is money that he put
out of his own pocket.
So i would go along with the rest here talking about a publicity stunt.
You want to do something helping other people, just do it and not shouting about it all over the place.
 Robbo199018/02/2017 00:00:59 GMT
Im on the publicity stunt bandwagon. much rather he donated his own money, or said the winning of my next tournament will goto the aid effort.

but i do feel its good as it may get his fans/other italians to donate.

but! some charities are bullshit so hope his money actually makes a difference.
here charity workers are very well paid - greenpeace, save the children, unicef etc street fundraisers earn $20 an hour plus bonuses....they ask for minimum $30 per month donation. ....if you ring up you can reduce that number to $5....not much money left for the victims
 Mober18/02/2017 20:44:48 GMT
I dont think that many got an interest on bidding there.
So the cause for them didnt ring a bell.
If you see the bidding history, you can see it was like three persons, bidding and overbidding themselves.
Just some that wanted it for a collection probably.
In other words they didnt bid to donate.
 pochui18/02/2017 20:50:36 GMT
yeah, exactly as Robbo pointed out- there's lots of uncharitable charities out there, kinda runs parallel with politicians/politics in general- you have to go through lots of sh1t until you find a tiny fraction of gold hidden under 69 locks. well i guess you need to do your homework and sip through the organizations on offer, then just pick the ones you like and stick with them.
