UK is the luckiest country according to 888poker Study

Tags: 888poker, the United Kingdom.

The description of luck is very different depending on a lot of aspects, including the emotional status and religious beliefs of the person interpreting it. If you happen to cross paths with a black cat, people say you'd get bad luck.

If it's Friday 13th, it's best to cancel trips and stay at home to make sure nothing bad happens to you. If you manage to find a four-leaf clover, then good luck will come to you. Thing is, it's really up to you.

Let's face it - the Luck factor plays a huge role in the short-term success of a poker player.

Think about it, very skillful players tend to win more cash than their less-skilled opponents (when looking at a huge sample size); however, the skill component can oftentimes be cancelled out merely by "luck" (when you look at a small sample size).

The second-biggest online poker site in the world, 888poker, has created a study that takes a look upon how Lady Luck flashes her smile on different countries all over the world.

To determine how lucky a country was, there were six metrics used:

  • Number of Summer Olympic Gold medals
  • Total number of Winter & Summer Olympic Gold medals
  • Number of sporting achievements
  • Average amount of rainfall (mm depth per year)
  • Number of reality TV show winners
  • Largest lottery win amount

The study revealed that the "luckiest country" in the world is the United Kingdom, followed by the United States of America, France and Japan. On the other hand, the "least luckiest" countries were Indonesia, Philippines, Vietnam, Thailand and Brazil.

What do you think? Is your country considered lucky in 888poker's study?

Wow, i am living in the luckiest country in the world!! I haven't noticed much luck around this way lately so i would like to see who actually done this survey!! My time must be due?

well i think this so called luck list represents aswell the skill factor of a (poker) nation. UK, US leading. i always have respect whenever i play against a UK player. if he does a move, you can be sure there is something behind, unlike germans - see 7th place.
not seeing canada on the "luck" list doesnt surprise me, the worst players ive ever met Big Smile
there is always work behind luck.

Lets start my rant...
1. The metric is incomplete, there looks to be a divided by population factor.
2. Taken into account that a lot of the countries listed have no lotto or equivalent, many countries are not listed, so totally skewed and screwed. and finally...
3. The UK is not a country however they union has spent millions of pounds improving their sporting performance.
3P rant over

so let me get this straight:

USA vs GB:

US of A has roughly:
* 4 x more summer medals
* 3x more total medals
* 25% more sporting events winners
* 6x bigger biggest lottery win
and only lags in terms of rainfall (30-35% less) and reality tv show winners (2x, but not sure about this metric at all, maybe in uk there's just more of them)

and still comes in 2nd...

and what about Egypt sitting there in 6th higher than Germany even though it lags in all criteria, and sometimes in the region of 20x or 30x??? wtf?

I am not surprize that this survey was done by 888. In their metrics i see only one that the only factor is luck and it is lottery win.

I don't see any luck in sports medals but skills is the only way to win medals.

Where do they see that rain fall is a matter of luck.

One think they did not talk about is that you need a lot of luck to play on their software. Aww crap! Aww crap!

This is a good joke nothing more, not understand now the amount of rain in the country has anything to do with luck , what about sunshine level, what about crime rate, what about how much on average people earn, what about unemployment level and lots of other factors
 Mober17/02/2017 20:22:57 GMT
It is one of these studies done from people who have times to spent, consuming it with
nonsense Smile
By reading the article rules etc one can see, that this can be a joke only.
It was a waste reading this "scientific report" Smile

Lol very good article and if you have to believe in luck, we also have to know that it plays a very important role ... many players play for simple fun and live winning.
 3pokeronly18/02/2017 01:00:35 GMT
Or, para-phrasing above, advertising for the UK market, not a joke just a poorly conceived and terrible implementation of a marketing strategy only targeted to the UK.

Aussie is quite lucky, NZ rules all though, come and have a look!

3P extra rant space is running ou

lol I have no idea what the amount of rainfall per year has to do with the country being lucky or not... Rain falls where clouds form. Clouds form from water condensation. Water comes from the ocean. UK is an island. So yeah, I doubt luck is involved in this particular stat it's more about geography. lmao

According to 888poker study? Who have done this research?
It is a very unique study, but people generally do not give any credit to the report or research paper that contains uncorrected grammatical or spelling errors.
 pochui18/02/2017 20:55:44 GMT
now coming back to the list, i diligently analysed the countries that occupy this highly prestigious list and then the real horror story unfolded right before my eyes if i dare to say so... they managed to miss North Korea Shock Disagree hello!!! what gives? i suspect that this list is at least partially rigged.
 superthight19/02/2017 14:17:12 GMT
yup i think so far enough that uk is most greatest but how about worst than ever ?we should all know that its a gambling sites that all runs out with money some stay in ,some stays out.only 1 wins rest bunch of tears Aww crap! Aww crap! Aww crap! Aww crap! Aww crap!

 pajalnick20/02/2017 12:17:32 GMT
maybe it's a study done in order to attract new players from countries that are marked on this list? Maybe so .... otherwise why spend 888 is "research"? I tried to search about the huge win in Japan but nothing about it is not found ... the falsification?

One of the most popular lotteries, Takarakuji, has been around in Japan for over 60 years.
Now, people can buy lotteries online, at kiosks, retail stores, and ATM's in most cities all throughout the calendar year. Each lottery ticket is sold at JPY100 to 500, and the top cash prizes are usually JPY200 to 500 million (around USD2 or 5 million) or more.
So, the number the researchers at 888poker came up with is probably a cumulative inflation-adjusted value.

 damosk21/02/2017 22:12:51 GMT
So.... I haven't read the article and I don't intend on doing so either. F you look for enough things in the right place then you will of course come to some loosely based evidence that may loosely support your theory or even assumption. As it is, if you don't like wind and rain then in UK you are not that lucky tonite!
