The second largest online poker website in the world, 888poker, has announced at the end of December 2017 that it has signed Swedish poker pro Martin Jacobson as its latest ambassador to the brand.
According to the website Hendon Mob on its Sweden's All Time Money List, Jacobson has actually won over $16.5 million in career prize money and he's ranked in first place! He's ranked 20th globally in the Swedish All-Time Live Tournament Money-Earner.
What's best known about Jacobson is that he won the 2014 World Series of Poker Main Event, in which he took home a whopping $10M in prize money. He now joins 888poker as "The Players Voice", with a focus of bridging the gap between 888poker and the players.
It seems like 888poker is following the steps from partypoker's business strategy. Partypoker has enjoyed a huge resurgence last year as the online poker operator has solidly focused their efforts on getting substantial player feedback, analyzing it, and then making definite changes that will make it poker offerings more player-friendly.
It was Patrik Antonius, serving as partypoker's brand ambassador, who played an important role in bridging the gap between partypoker and its players. Antonius served as the sounding board for the players who voice out their complaints and concerns to him who in turn filters the feedback and collaborates with partypoker management so as to make their services and products more player-friendly.
Similar to that strategy, 888poker has signed up Martin Jacobson to play a similar role, as the online poker operator would like to be more focused on being player friendly in 2018. To celebrate the partnership, 888poker has ran a special $5,000 Martin Jacobson Welcome Tournament last December 27 to let the poker community know that Jacobson was on board the 888poker team of ambassadors, and that he is going to play a very important role in helping 888poker become more player friendly.
As of the moment, PokerStars remain to be the number one online poker operator throughout the world and they dominate the global poker market. Partypoker has also made significant steps in 2017 to become player friendly and more competitive. Even if they're quietly going about doing their business, 888poker has managed to continue building up an impressive team of brand ambassadors.
The 888poker brand ambassador team includes a handful of mostly European poker pros, including 4-time WSOP bracelet winner Dominik Nitsche who is also one of 2017's biggest winners (earned $4M after winning the $111,111 One Drop High Roller), future Poker Hall of Famer and the most successful online multi-table tournament player in the world Chris Moorman, Natalie Hof, Bruno Politano, one of the most-viewed Twitch stars in poker Parker ‘Tonkaaaa' Talbot, and Kara Scott who is known to be one of the best reporters and hosts in the poker industry.
It's good to know that when Jacobson won the 2014 WSOP Main Event, he donated $250,000 of it to animal charities recommended by Animal Charity Evaluators (ACE), another meta-charity incorporating effective altruism (EA) principles.
Much like what Patrik Antonius does for partypoker, the 30-year-old Jacobson will be featured in their online marketing stints and he'll represent the 888poker brand at major live events.
