After three grueling days of high-stakes poker gaming, the 30-year-old Canadian poker pro Sam Greenwood managed to outlast a player field of 61 to win the trophy and a sweet first place cash prize worth $1,775,460.
Since introducing the tournament back in 2011, the annual PokerStars Caribbean Adventure (PCA) hosted the Super High Roller NLHE event with a $100,000 buy-in and this year it attracted a total of 61 entrants, which accumulated a $5,918,220 prize pool. The biggest player field for this particular event was 66 entries back in 2015, so this makes it the second-biggest turnout in PCA history.
This is Greenwood first seven-figure score for the year 2019.
Last year, he had earned three seven-figure wins:
- $ 1,227,792 - 1st place at the partypoker MILLIONS Grand Final Barcelona's €51,000 NLHE Super High Roller #5
- $ 1,853,387 - 1st place at the European Poker Tour (EPT) Monte Carlo's €100,000 NLHE - EPT Super High Roller #7
- $ 1,471,968 - 4th place at the Triton Poker Super High Roller Series Jeju, South Korea's HK$2 million NLHE Super High Roller Series Main Event
Overall, he has six seven-figure cashes so far in his poker career. According to the Hendonmob, his current total live tournament earnings are now $14.6 million and in 3rd place on the Canada All-time Money List, behind only Jonathan Duhamel ($18 million) and Daniel Negreanu ($38.6 million).
The third and final day of the event started with Greenwood fourth in chips with five players left. Greenwood's Aces gobbled up most of the stack of chip leader Chris "Big Huni" Hunichen, and this left him limping and losing shortly after.
Up next on Greenwood's takedown list was British investment manager Talal Shakerchi, defeating him with pocket Queens. Next was Spanish Jesus Cortes' flop only to be defeated by a flop straight.
The final hand saw Sam Greenwood versus 29-year-old Henrik Hecklen, with the former having a 10-1 chip lead.
