Phil Ivey Settles $10.1M Lawsuit with Borgata

Phil Ivey finally settled his lawsuit with Borgata earlier this month.

The undisclosed agreement between the two parties comes after a six-year legal battle regarding the controversial "edge sorting" technique they used in baccarat.

According to court documents filed on Thursday, July 2 in the United States Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit, the two parties reached an agreement on the $10.1 million that Phil Ivey owed the Atlantic City casino.

Borgata Goes After Phil Ivey's 2019 WSOP Earnings

American poker legend Phil Ivey has been under the gun in the recent years due to legal battles he's gotten himself into for using a controversial method called ‘edge sorting' to win massive amounts at the casino game Baccarat.

In February, a New Jersey federal judge gave Borgata Hotel and Casino the green light to go after Ivey's assets in Nevada in an attempt to collect the approx. $10 million they claim Ivey and his accomplice Cheng Yin "Kelly" Sun associate owe them.

While in the early stages it was poker legend Phil Ivey leading the pack, on Day 4 the 10-time WSOP bracelet winner suddenly lost his grip on the goal as he took a beat after beat, which made his stack plummet down to zero, thus making way for another hopeful to take the ultimate prize.

On June 29 (Saturday) a former pro golfer from Texas was able to snag his second gold bracelet after winning Event #58 of the 2019 WSOP.

Phil Ivey opened his poker coaching site Ivey League in the beginning of 2014 and has since then produced poker training videos together with, for example, Patrik Antonius, Cole South and Griffin Benger. Last week, however, the site announced on twitter that they will no longer be posting new video content from May 1st and that they will refund yearly subscriptions.

The owners of the Mayfair gaming club Crockfords declared that Mr. Ivey had been cheating and had broken the rules, thereby his win is not considered valid. Phil Ivey Countersues Borgata Casino

According to ESPN, Phil Ivey's attorneys filed a countersuit on Wednesday against Borgata, claiming that the casino had destroyed the decks of cards used when Phil Ivey won nearly $10 million playing Baccarat in 2012 while using a controversial technique called edge sorting. Borgata filed a law suit in April after learning that Ivey lost the case (worth about $12 million) against Crockfords Casino in London.
