After the Finnish poker pro Patrik Antonius had swept Rui Cao (France) clean in a Triple Draw match last Friday at Full Tilt Poker, Cao suggested that the two should start a $1 million challenge consisting of pot-limit Omaha ($350k match), no-limit hold'em ($350k) and 2-7 triple draw ($300k).

On Wednesday, the challenge kicked off at a $1,500/$3,000 2-7 Triple Draw table at Full Tilt Poker. Cao won $15k in the very first hand of the match and remained in front through out the match. In fact, it only took about 3 hours and 350 hands for him to take $300,000 from Antonius.

There is still no information on when the second match will be played. Let's hope that it won't take too long!

It seems like a new high-stakes poker scam has been revealed. It all started last week when an anonymous person posted very shady Skype and Facebook conversations between Canadian poker pro Matt Marafioti (the guy who wrote not-so-nice-things about Lauren Kling after the break-up last month) and Swedish poker player and IT expert Samer Rahman, who was accused in 2007 of helping fellow countryman Mohamed Kowssarie to steal millions of dollars from Patrik Antonius and Johnny Lodden in a hacking scheme.

HighStakes: "Ziigmund" cleaned out Antonius' account

Tags: finland, high stakes, ilari sahamies, patrik antonius
Posted on 29 December 2011 by "T".

Patrik Antonius and Ilari "Ziigmund" Sahamies, both from Finland, played an action-filled (but short) heads-up the other day that thousands of people watched on PokerStars. Sahamies, who's one of the biggest winners this year, took the command almost straight away and totally dominated against his fellow country men. In fact, he took every single cent from Antonius account - about 190k US dollars - and the game was over.

Well, not for Sahamies. Instead of enjoying the win and eating some Christmas turkey, Sahamies continued playing at PokerStars nosebleed tables. Unfortunately things didn't go so well from there on but still he got away with a profit of about $144k for the day.

Posted on 28 November 2011 by "T".

Apparently APPT Macau didn't only attract big names to come and play poker tournaments, but also some high stakes players who were up for playing cash games. According to what "MacauPro" writes in a big poker forum, Johnny Chan, the 10-time WSOP bracelet winner, won about 11 million Hong King Dollars (US$1.4 million) in different cash games, and players like Patrik Antonius, Phil Ivey (took part in the main event as well), Guy Laliberte and Tom Dwan were involved in some big games as well. However, "MacauPro" doesn't seem to know how much they have won or lost. As for Tom Dwan, Poker Portal Asia wrote that Dwan was in Macau but that he had to go back to the US for a few days because he lost his passport.

The person Antonius is referring to is Noah "NoahSD" Stephens-Davidowitz, and Antonius is very concerned how he got his account balance and why he's telling everyone about such a confidential information.

After the game between Patrik Antonius and Brandon Adams had finished (6-0, 6-1), David "differ" Peat went up to Adams and asked him to give a line on - how many balls Tom Dwan could return on Antinous serves (out of 20). Brandon thought something like 7 over/under was a good line. Everyone started laughing and "differ" said "Have you ever seen Tom playing tennis?!".

Differ added "It's like 4, and I would like to take the under 7 if so." Brandon got up from the bench, grabbed a racket and started serving. Tom Dwan only managed to return 3 out of 20 serves from Brandon Adams.

High Stakes: Patrik Antonius won $2.3M last month

Tags: black friday, full tilt poker, patrik antonius
Posted on 02 May 2011 by "T".

Many thought that the high stakes scene would die after Black Friday when all U.S. players were blocked from playing poker online. Now, when a bit more than 2 weeks have passed, we can conclude that it didn't! There were some really good games going at Full Tilt and PokerStars nosebleed tables during the second half of April, and it was the Nordic players who won and lost the most.

On the winners side we find the finnish Full Tilt Pro Patrik Antonius who ended up with a $2.3M profit, closely followed by fellow countryman Jens "Ingenious89" Kyllonen with a $1.73M profit. The two biggest losers in April were Andreas "skjervoy" Torbergsen (-$1.5M) and Gus Hansen (-$964k).

High Stakes: Finnish high-stake regulars won big!

There were some insane games at Full Tilt's nosebleed tables last Thursday. A player with the alias "ronnyr37617" (Switzerland) took on Gus Hansen in a $300/$600 PLO session that turned out to be very thrilling. For some time, Gus Hansen was down almost 1 million dollars, but thanks to winning a few big pots at the end of the session he "only" lost $427,000. "ronnyr37617" logged off when he was up $186,000. But most probably he hated himself for not quitting a bit earlier - before losing the big pots to Hansen.

Posted on 28 January 2011 by "T".

The 2011 Aussie Millions Main Event is down to a final table after 6 days of play. In the lead is Randy Dorfman with almost 3.9 million chips. Yes, Dorfman, who lead the field after Day 2, has regained the lead and he's definitely the big favorite to take down the tournament if he continues playing as good as during Day 4. Someone that will get a lot of attention on the final table is the Finnish Full Tilt Pro Patrik Antonius. Antonius will bring 1.3 million chips to the final table and he's definitely the one of the 8 finalists who has the most experience to play televised final tables where lots of money is up for grabs.

Ladies and gentlemen, we have a really interesting final table ahead of us. All the finalists are guaranteed at least 130k AUD each and the winner will get stunning 2,000,000 AUD.

The final table is being played at the moment. The 6 finalists who are battling for the first prize of 250,000 AUD are Howard Lederer, David Oppenheim, James Bord, Barny Boatman, Patrik Antonius and Eli Elezra. Howard Lederer is in the lead with 175,000, closely followed by Oppenheim (160k) and James Bord (135,000).

Boatman and Antonius are far behind in chips but might still have a chance if they double up soon. Eli Elezra only has 15,000 chips left and he will for sure be the one who's sent packing next since the blinds of 1000/2000 +100 ante are eating up his stack.

After a very action filled and interesting weekend at the high stakes tables many players took a well needed break on Monday. But we only had to wait until Tuesday before the games were on again. Most interesting player to follow that day was Tom "durrrr" Dwan who played lots of hands and was involved in many big pots. After about 6,200 played hands, he had won nothing less that $720,000 from Patrik Antonius, UrnotINdanger2 and other notables. Durrrr has been playing extremely well in the past few days, but he also been very lucky in many big pots.

HighStakes: July - a disaster month for durrrr and Phil Ivey

July was a terrible month for some of the poker world's best players, and notables such as Phil Ivey, Tom "durrrr" Dwan and Cole South all ended up on the month's top 5 losers list. Luckily one notable managed to make it to the top 5 winners list and saved some of the high stakes world's reputation. Patrik Antonius had a fantastic winning streak last month ($614,000), he played very solid poker and was never really in danger of losing.

High Stakes: Big success for Isildur1 and Antonius last week

Tags: full tilt poker, high stakes, isildur1, patrik antonius
Posted on 08 June 2010 by "T".

Last week came to be a week that poker players from the nordic countries should be proud of. Not less than 3 players from Sweden and Finland made it to the top 5 last week, and I got a feeling that there are more great results to come from 2 of them, Isildur1 and Patrik Antonius. Both Isildur1 and Patrik Antonius had a fantastic flow in their game last week, and both of them also ended up being the top 2 winners of the week. Isildur1 played around 18,000 hands and won $175k and Patrik won almost double that amount, $345k.

Is this week going to be as thrilling as the previous week? Is the WSOP and the nice weather going to affect the action online? We will have to wait and see I guess. :)

High Stakes: Isildur1 returns to the tables

Posted on 01 June 2010 by "T".

In the past 1,5 month, Isildur1 almost hasn't played anything. Last week, however, he finally made a small comeback and played about 8000 hands. Lots and lots of spectators were following their favorite mystery swede and watched him win about $50k. Even though Isildur1 won - there is not much to say about the sessions he played. No remarkable plays whatsoever.

Are we ever going to see Isildur1 play the same crazy games as back in 2009? Many Isildur1 followers seem to have their doubts about that. Personally, I'm quite sure that it's not the last time we get to see Isildur1 winning and losing huge amounts of money. Lets hope I'm right!

Patrik Antonius attack on the World Series of Poker

Tags: bracelet, full tilt poker, patrik antonius, wsop
Posted on 06 May 2010 by "T".

Patrik Antonius, the Finnish Full Tilt Pro, doesn't think think much of World Series of Poker. He thinks that the WSOP bracelets are bullshit because there are 100 WSOP events every year and because everyone has one. The bracelets are shit quality, false and probably not worth more than $50, according to Patrik.

"The WSOP crew wants to rob the players. They don't really care about them and it's ridiculous. They have moved the tournament to the summer time in Las Vegas when no one wants to be there. They are just doing it so hotels and restaurants will be filled up. I personally think I will stop playing the WSOP in the future."

He continues...

"No one wants to be in Vegas during the summer, anywhere else than there. Its a period when people want to have vacation and be with their families, but instead one has to be in Vegas for a shitty bracelet", says Patrik Antonius in a video interview.

HighStakes: Durrrr's winning streak is over

Posted on 04 May 2010 by "T".

Tom "durrrr" Dwan has been running extremely good this year and he has won many million dollars. Well, last week the winning streak came to an end and he ended up losing over $2 million dollars. Most of the money durrrr lost was during the weekend. Even though durrrr had a tough week at the tables, he's still up a few millions this year and also has a big lead in the durrrr challenge with about 11,000 hands to go. If he wins the durrrr challenge, he will get $500,000 from Patrik Antonius. Speaking of Patrik Antonius. He finally got his long-awaited win last week and also became the biggest winner with a profit of $707,043.
