durrrr challenge: Dwan won big in no-time! |

It seems like Patrik Antonius has no chance against Tom Dwan in the durrrr challenge lately. I'm saying this because Tom Dwan has dominated every single session they have played in the past few months. The last session was no different. It only took Tom Dwan 9 minutes/61 hands and he had taken $230,710 from his finnish opponent. Tom Dwan has now won almost $2 million dollars from Antonius in the durrrr challenge. Even though they still have to play another 17,000 hands, I really doubt that Patrik Antonius can win this challenge. Well, nothing is impossible, but if Tom Dwan continue playing this well -- he's unstoppable!

Even though the majority of the biggest names in poker can be found in the U.S. today, there are still plenty of good players in the Nordic countries as well. To honor the top players from Finland, Norway, Denmark and Sweden, PokerStars is once again arranging the Nordic Poker awards (previously Scandinavian Awards) before the EPT stop in Copenhagen, Denmark, February 15.
The 3 biggest names among the poker players who have been nominated this year are Peter Eastgate (Denmark), Patrik Antonius (Finland), Ilari Sahamies (Finland). All three of them won an award each last year.

After a few weeks break, it was finally time for Tom Dwan and Patrik Antonius to continue the battle last night. During 4 hours, they managed to play 1230 hands. Even though it was a quite long session, it wasn't as much action as many hoped for. The biggest pot this night landed on around $120,000 and was won by Tom Dwan. However, it came to be Patrik Antonius who ended up plus $5,983 in the end of the day.
This result doesn't change a lot in the durrrr challenge. Dwan still has a big lead ($878,000) and there is still 19,000 hands to be played. Ladies and gentlemen, it seems like we will have to wait a few more months (at least) before this challenge comes to an end and we have a winner.

High Stakes: Great action last night |

Even though the action at the high stakes tables isn't the same like in the end of last year when Isildur1 played, there are still some games going on once in a while. Last night, the action was really on at Full Tilt poker when pros like Tom "durrrr" Dwan, Cole South, Illari Sahamies and Patrick Antonius tried their "luck".
Big winners of last night came to be Cole South ($257,000), Illari Sahamies ($436,000), Tom "durrrr" Dwan ($132,000). All of them played quite short sessions, but still made a good profit. In other words, it was a good day at work for all of them.
A player that had a tough time at the poker tables last night was the Finnish poker pro Patrik Antonius. It simply wasn't his night, and nothing went his way (like it did the most of time back in 2009). When he finally decided to give up, he had lost $826 000 in just 434 hands. Even though $826 000 is a lot of money, Patrik Antonius probably isn't crying out loud since he won about $9 million last year.

Yesterday, it was finally time for another durrrr challenge session between Tom "durrrr" Dwan and Patrik Antonius. Lots of people rushed to their computers as 2 of the worlds best were about to play some real high stakes poker at Full Tilt. None of these people/spectators can have been disappointed with the action field game they got to watch.
During 7 hours, Dwan and Antonius played almost 2000 hands. And as usual when Tom Dwan and Patrik Antonius play against each other -the swings were enormous. Many times during this session, Patrik Antonius was in the lead and seemed to have everything under control, but Tom Dwan managed to fight back and make some great plays and also overtake the lead. After that the session was over, Tom Dwan had won another $225k from Antonius. This means that after almost 30,000 hands, Tom Dwan is in the lead with almost $940,000.

Patrik Antonius believes in Isildur1 |

Patrik Antonius, the Finnish poker pro, has played and followed Isildur1 since he started showing up at Full Tilt poker. In a recent interview with a poker magazine, Patrik Antonius gave his opinion about Isildur1 and his way of playing poker.
"At first, I wasn't very impressed about the way he played poker. But at that time we played fewer tables than he wanted to. However, I noticed that Isildur1 is a great player when it comes to playing many tables at the same time as he then plays a very aggressive style of poker which gives him a great advantage against many of the world's best players."
Patrik continues...
"Every time I thought I figured out how he's playing, he changed tactics. It seems like he always have a plan and a thought behind every single move he makes. And when he's bluffing, it's not a thoughtless move."
Patrik about Isildur1's money management "When it comes to such a talented and young poker player as Isildur1, he probably doesn't have a lot of expenses, and even if he goes broke and only have for example $2000 left, I still think that he easily could build up a $1 million dollar bankroll in a year. All of the best players, including me, have been taking many risks on the way to the top. The ones that fail on the way just have to move down in stakes and start building up their bankroll again."

Yesterday, after another long break, durrrr and Dwan played 588 hands in 2 hours time - a quite short session in other words. The winner this time came to be Patrik Antonius who won $68,000 even though durrrr took home many of the bigger pots. However, Patrik was the one who took home the biggest pot this time, $143,193. This session was probably the most boring of all durrrr challenge sessions so far. Let's hope for longer sessions, more action and bigger pots the next time durrrr and Antonius play against each other.
Tom Dwan still has a big lead Tom "durrrr" Dwan is in the lead with $711,556 after that 27,773 hands out of 50,000 hands have been played. It seems like we will have to wait a few more months (at least) for the durrrr challenge to come to an end if they don't start playing more often.

High Stakes - Online: The largest pots ever |

Posted on Friday, December 04, 2009 by "T". |
The action at the high stakes just keeps on getting more and more crazy ever year. In 2006, games were a lot smaller than today as the highest games back then were played with $200/$400 blinds, and only a few poker sites dared to offer these high stakes. The most talked about hand, and also the biggest pot back in 2006, was when Johnny "bad_ip" Lodden lost a $465,451 pot to Kowssarie. Many people were amazed over how one could lose/win so much in just a single hand.
These days we can see pots of this size every week and we are getting used to seeing Patrik Antonius, Isildur1, Tom Dwan, Phil Ivey and other pros winning and losing millions of dollars in just days, or even hours. Losing and winning these kind amounts is just something as normal as eating and sleeping for many of these guys. The question is: How big can the pots become? We'll, let's take Isildur1 as an example. This guy came from nowhere and won $6 millions in a few weeks, and then he lost it all plus another million+ in no-time. Isildur1 has thanks to his crazy style of playing poker already set a few records as he has been involved in the 8 biggest pots ever. However, the biggest pot Isildur1 has played was when he lost $1,356,947 to Patrik Antonius at the stakes $500/$1000 in Pot Limit Omaha.
A short conclusion The future looks very bright for people who loves watching the action at the highest stakes and the adrenaline it brings with it. The average pot will keep on growing and we will see more players like Isildur1 and Martonas who wins big, then lose it all and disappears from the high stakes scene.

Cole South, Isildur1, Patrik Antonius, Tom durrr Dwan, Ziigmund
Posted on Wednesday, December 02, 2009 by "T". |
On Tuesday night, Isildur1 and Ilari "Ziigmund" Sahamies were once again playing against each other. In the previous heads-up match, Ziigmund crushed Isildur1 and won around $1,5 million in just 600 hands. This time was no different than the previous session as Ilari "Ziigmund" Sahamies once again dominated and got the Swede on tilt. After 1123 hands, Isildur1 had lost a bit more than a million and Ziigmund decided to call it a day. Ziigmund's decision to stop for the day just made the Swede even more frustrated and angry.
A very tired, frustrated and angry Isildur1 started to make fun of Ziigmund in the poker chat by writing stuff like "How can you stop playing when you are winning and I almost can't keep my eyes open". Ilari "Ziigmund" Sahamies didn't let Isildur1's talk get to him, and he left the table $1 million richer. Isildur1, however, had no plans on stopping after this as he started playing against Tom "durrr" Dwan, Cole South and Patrik Antonius instead. Isildur1 continued playing bad the rest of the night, and after he had lost about $2,7 million, he finally gave up and went to sleep.

Isildur1, the unknown Swede, has been on a roll since he started showing up at Full Tilt poker. Now, however, it seems like it all has come to an end referring to yesterday's big losing session versus Patrik Antonius. Patrik owned Isildur1 in PL Omaha and won over $3.4 million. Patrik has now won almost $8.500,000 million this year and is with that the second biggest winner online this year after Phil Ivey.
Isildur1 is still plus Isildur1 is still over $2 million plus since he started playing at Full Tilt poker. Let's just hope for Isildur1's sake that he won't go on tilt now and that we will see more sessions between him and "durrrr", because it would be really sad if Isildur1 disappear from the high stakes scene as fast as Martonas did.

The unknown Swede, Isildur1 started showing up at the highest stakes at Full Tilt poker a few weeks ago. Since then he has won millions of dollars against some of the world's best poker players. Another player that has been doing very well is Patrik Antonius who has won over 5 million dollars this year. However, last night, Isildur1 and Antonius played PL Omaha against each other and wrote history as they created the biggest pot in the history of online poker.

durrrr challenge: Tom Dwan's lead is getting bigger |

It seems like Tom "durrrr" Dwan and Patrik Antonius find it hard to find some time to play the durrrr challenge lately. And when they play, it's usually only one to two hour sessions. This time was different. In this session they played multiple sessions with shorter breaks over an eight hour period.
Tom Dwan has been playing very well in the durrr challenge lately, and it seems like the poker gods are on his side when he needs to get lucky. In this session Tom Dwan stayed in the lead against Antonius all the time and also took down the most bigger pots (around $200-$300k). An example of when Tom Dwan got lucky in this session is when he and Antonius went all-in pre flop. Antonius had a much better hand and flopped trips. At this point, Tom Dwan only could win with a runner, runner straight. Tom Dwan prayed to the poker gods, and the poker gods answered his prayers by giving him the straight and the pot of $190,000.
Tom Dwan has now increased his lead with another $82k. This means that after 27,185 hands of the durrrr challenge, Tom Dwan has a lead of $779,248. Of course it's still a long way to go of the durrrr challenge. Anything can still happen, and that is probably why it's still so interesting to follow the durrr challenge?

Patrik Antonius, the Full Tilt Poker Pro, has been playing his very best poker this year. He has won over $5 million dollars so far, and it seems like he's unbeatable at the moment. A few days ago he took on Richard Ashby, Gus Hansen, and David Benyamine at Full Tilt poker. Neither of them had a chance against Patrik Antonius, who had a hard time finding someone else to play against after that all 3 of them had left the table.
About Patrik Antonius: Patrik Antonius was born December 13, 1980 in Helsinki, Finland. Before his great poker career took off, he worked as a model and also had a promising tennis career in front of him. Antonius turned poker pro 2002 and became famous 3 years later after some great results in different EPT and WSOP events. Since Patrik Antonius started playing poker, he has made millions of dollars from cash games and tournaments.

WPT Cyprus - Day 1b: Phil Gordon in the lead |

Posted on Tuesday, September 08, 2009 by "T". |
Day 1b of World Poker Tour in Cyprus attracted a very interesting starting field which included lots of pros. For example: John Juanda, Phil Gordon, Howard Lederer, Chris Furguson, Gus Hansen, and Erik Lindgren. 62 players made it through from Day 1b to Day 2. In the chip lead of Day 1b we find no one else than Team Full Tilt pro Phil Gordon with around 160,000 chips. Not far behind him is Jean Robert Bellande with around 155,000 chips.
Unfortunately, the poker legend John Juanda went out in the very last hand of Day 1b. Before he went out of the tournament he was quite short-stacked and also seemed to be a bit "tilted". Many disappointed fans of his probably expected him to make it at least to Day 2 of the tournament. But, one can't blame him for having a hard time as he was seated at the same table as these guys....
Seat 1: Unknown player Seat 2: Va Shon Watkins Seat 3: Patrik Antonius Seat 4: Howard Lederer Seat 5: Chris Karagulleyan Seat 6: Albert Yakoub Seat 7: Unknown player Seat 8: Phil Gordon Seat 9: John Juanda

Posted on Monday, September 07, 2009 by "T". |
The past few days, Gus Hansen, the Danish poker pro, has been playing on much lower stakes than he usually does. There are many theories why he has moved down in stakes. One of them is that his bankroll isn't what it used to be, and therefore he can't afford to play against "durrrr", Patrik Antonius, Phil Ivey, and other big names at the highest stakes. Another theory is that he finds the opponents at the lower stakes much weaker.
So how is Gus doing at the lower stakes? It seems like he is doing very well at the lower stakes. He also seems to play more comfortable there than at the highest stakes at Full Tilt poker. It will be very interesting to see if he stick to the "lower stakes", or if he decides to move up in stakes again. However, Gus Hansen, has had a rough 2009 with around 2 million dollars lost, and most probably much more on other things next the poker. For example he lost a lot of money when the best tennis player in the world (Rafael Nadal) surprisingly lost against the Swede Robin Söderling in French open.

Last week was a great week for some high stakes players from Finland. However, the most successful of those were Patrik Antonius who won over a million dollars, and his fellow countryman, Ilari Sahamies, who won close to half a million dollars. Most of the money Antonius won came from the American pro Tom "durrr" Dwan. Tom "durrr" Dwan came to be the biggest loser last week with around $900,000 lost. But as we all know, that is not an amount that Tom Dwan will cry so much over.
Another poker player that lost a lot of money last week was "Martonas", or the "unknown Swede" as many people call him. It seems like "Martonas" has given up playing on the highest stakes at Full Tilt poker. Because lately he can be found on the lower stakes at Full Tilt. Probably he has realized that he can't afford the enormous swings, or just think its easier making money on the lower stakes?

After a long break away from the durrr challenge, Patrik Antonius and Tom Dwan have now played 2 sessions within 24 hours. Before the first one started, Tom Dwan, had a big lead with over $700,000 won from Antonius, but the Finnish poker pro took back $392,000 from Tom Dwan after they had played 795 hands and decided to stop for the day. Just a couple of hours later they decided to play another session of the "durrr" challenge.
Before this session started, Tom "durrrr" Dwan, was in the lead with $334,199. But once again Patrik Antonius played his very best of poker and this time he won $415,311 from Tom Dwan. Patrik Antonius, is now in the lead with $76,104 over Tom Dwan after 22 683 hands played. It will be very interesting to see if Tom Dwan will manage to fight back in the next session against Antonius.

After a long break due to WSOP and other things, "durrrr" and Patrik Antonius once again played a session of 795 hands as a part of the durrrr challenge. Before the session started, Tom "durrrr" Dwan, had a big lead with over $700,000 won from Antonius. But, the long break seems to have been what the Finnish poker star needed to get back in shape. In this session, Patrik Antonius, played a totally different game than before and thanks to that he took home the biggest and most important pots.
After 795 hands played, Patrik Antonius, stood as the bigger winner of the day with $392,000 dollars won from "durrrr". Tom "durrrr" Dwan, is still in the lead with $334,199 even though he lost so much this time. However, there is a very long way to go as "only" 21,442 hands out of 50,000 hands have been played so far. Anything can happen with other words.

Full Tilt poker, is the one and only poker site when it comes to high stakes games. Nowhere else you will find so high activity on tables with for example $2000/$4000 and $1000/$2000 blinds. Of course the most people can't afford to play on these stakes, but it doesn't cost a penny to watch when some of the biggest names in poker play against each other. One must admit that it feels a bit unreal when pots many times are $500,000 - $1,000,000 and the players don't even have "monster hands". The money that these guys can lose/win in just one single hand is many times something that the average poker player won't win or lose in his entire lifetime.

Posted on Wednesday, August 19, 2009 by "T". |
The unknown Swede, "martonas", hasn't been around for very long, but he's already a feared player at the highest stakes. He has won around $1,000,000 since he started playing with the alias "martonas" at Full Tilt poker. Most of the money he has won has come from Tom "durrrr" Dwan. Yesterday these two played against each other once again, and "durrrr" finally got his revenge since their last heads-up session.
Yesterday there was some crazy action going on at Full Tilt's high stakes tables. "durrrr" and "martonas" played heads-up for almost 12 hours straight. The swings were sick, but also very entertaining for those who watched. The pots in this heads-up match many times landed on $400,000 and more. At one point, "martonas", won over 1 million dollars in just 20 minutes from "durrrr". But even though "martonas" won so much money in such a short time, it was "durrrr" who dominated. "durrrr" was up between 2-3 millions against "martonas" for a while. "durrrr", decided that he had enough of poker after playing almost 24 hours straight. Probably he had a very good sleep after this long session since he had won $1,300,000. "martonas" in another hand had no plans on stop playing. He played some great poker against Phil Ivey, Lars Luzak, and Patrik Antonius. Thanks to this, he ended the day when he was "only" $859,000 minus. Even though he lost a lot, he managed to win back over $2 million after that he and "durrrr" ended their session. Quite an impressive achievement!?

Last Friday we wrote about Nicki "Kaibuxxe" Jedlicka from Austria who won many million dollars online back in 2007, but then lost most of his bankroll to Phil Ivey and other pros. After that, Nicki Jedlicka disappeared from the high stakes scene and not until a few weeks ago he started showing up on the highest tables at Full Tilt poker. He started off by winning around $1 million in just 24 hours, most of it from Tom "Durrrr" Dwan, the American high stakes pro. That win truly whetted his appetite for playing more high stakes poker. Last Sunday Jedlicka took on Patrik Antonius and played the poker of his life. It was in this session, Jedlicka won one of his biggest pots ever - $409,481.
