WPT Ireland: No one could stop Dave Shallow from taking home the title

After 3 days of play, Dave Shallow, from the UK, had accumulated a monstrous looking 6.1 million chips, almost 2 million more than the remaining field together! It was not a big surprise to anyone that he would be the one who took home the tournament, the first prize of €222,280 and a $25,000 seat in the WPT World Championships, which will be played at Bellagio next year.

The win is by far Dave Shallow's biggest in his poker career. But even though he's been playing extremely well and seems to be on a winning streak at the moment, he said in an interview after the win that he will take a break from poker for a while now and instead take care of his 7,5 month pregnant girlfriend. Let's hope the money will come in handy for Shallow and his family!

WPT Ireland: 338 players signed up for the Main Event

Yesterday, the World Poker Tour Ireland Main Event kicked off with 338 players. At the end of the day (after 9 levels of play), 195 had chips left and they now get a few hours of rest before it's time to return to the tables again.

Dave Callaghan (picture), a local poker player, is the chip leader with 186,900 chips. It will be interesting to see whether Callaghan has what it takes to become the second local in a very short time to win the main event (referring to the 2011 WPT Venice Main Event that a local boy took home). Well, there is long way to go and still many good players will plenty of chips, so we will just have to wait and see what happens.
