How long time to vote in polls?  +2
Too many people are voting way too fast in polls, so fast it's impossible for them to have read and understood the question and possible answers.

That's why there's now a limit. If you vote faster than 5 seconds, your vote will not be recorded.

I did some testing with random polls and the average speed I could vote with was 5 seconds - but that was when I only read the question and the answers, without *thinking* about it and just clicked an answer. And also without reading the 1st post which usually contain some information, sometimes essential, about the vote. Like this one.

So what do you think should be the minimum amount of seconds one would have to "wait" before the vote is recorded? Consider that you have to be able to read the poll question, the answers. Think about your answer - and often the 1st post in the thread too.

Currently it just doesn't record the vote but gives the user a 2nd chance to vote - but I can easily change it so that it will record the vote no matter how trigger happy you are, but you won't receive points then. But, I would prefer to have real votes from people who have READ the polls rather than people just wanting to vote for the sake of it (even if they were not awarded points).

What kind of idiot votes in a poll before reading the question? These people must be in it purely for the points but if you increase the time it takes to vote this won't necessarily force the voter to read the question. If they want the points that bad they'll just wait and still won't read the first post.

I didn't know you could do this by the way. Record how long it takes someone to vote. I presume you can also tell how long it takes someone to post. Imo you shouldn't vote or post a response until you've read the full thread or at least scanned it's development. For example, the other day there was a poll by one guy in a thread that didn't make any sense so I waited for the op to explain what he was on about before I voted.

Maybe you should be able to change your vote later on. Just in case someone posts after you and changes your mind. Not for more points of course but maybe it would make the polls more accurate.

Time limit?
In an online poker forum?

Where players are used to make decisions in milliseconds due to massive multitabling? Confused

I have said this before. I don't think you should get credited the point for the vote in the poll unless you make a comment in the thread.

As you can see on some polls 60-100 votes and only 5 or 6 posts on the thread.

So peaple are just voteing for points Sad

awood88 - it's my theory (hope!) that if people see the message that their vote was not recorded because they were too fast, they will know "okay, so I have to wait a bit" - and who in their right mind wouldn't be able to at least spend 5 seconds on just reading the question and scan the answers? then usually the brain is forced to *think* a little bit about it Smile

shokaku - that's like comparing apples with strawberries Smile

------------
dunotra - you can't put it like that. I don't think I've *ever* seen a forum thread (on any topic for that matter - not just here) that had more replies than votes in a poll. Sometimes people just don't have anything else to add than their vote and that's fine. Rather "just a vote" rather than pages filled with "I voted xxxxx".

We can't really force people to explain their choice unless we only want like 1/20 of the possible votes to be recorded Smile

But your input, dunotra, is of course welcome, still.

Difficult one but i like shokaku post........ maybe you should have to post a reply before you are allowed to vote ....... this way people know you took the time to read, understand and why you voted the way you did, so with the usual restrictions on post length, a quick reply get no points and neither the vote either..........with reference to awood88 and people in it purely for the points ........ yes it is a big part of why i participate in the forum... but i try to make sure i post decent and interesting posts so i receive the points.......... as i really want to reach the 5000 .... also because of the points system i find this a more interesting forum to participate in ........ i also participate in another forum, which i got involved in before here ... but its not as good, as people constantly post rubbish like 3 or 4 worded posts as there is no real benefit like there is here to posting. So dont knock those that post for points rather make sure they are posting post that others will find worth reading Worship Worship Worship Worship

The last two post were not showing up before i posted this ...... so sorry for the similarities

I chose the 10 - 15 second range. Some polls just aren't long enough to make even last that long, at least it would make people think about the poll before just clicking away for points. It's a good idea to make people comment, but some polls don't even require an answer.

@ photolong - I wasn't knocking ppl posting for points and I approve of the points system here. You might be right in that it makes the forum better as well as encouraging regular visitors. My comments were only directed at those who vote for points without understanding the poll, ie those who incorrectly sway the results of the poll just so they can have a few points. If you don't have an opinion or you don't understand the question, you shouldn't vote in order to keep the poll fair.

@ admin - what if someone reads the page but doesn't vote, then returns to vote hours later, they would just click on their vote without reading again. How is that recorded?

And what about the changing your vote later option? Is that a possibility?

btw I haven't voted in this poll yet. Still haven't made up my mind see. lol

It's a typical mafia behaviour but I agree with you.
To oblige BRM members to wait before voting it's the best way to be sure polls will be red.
Not too much time, by the way, 20 seconds it's enough for me Blink

I think 30s to 1m should be fine

It's a great idea. I often asked myself how much people has voted after reading my fisrt post when I've made a thread, specially when I'm asking for how to play in a specific situation.
Anyway I've got to recognize that I've voted almost inmediatly in some polls without reading the first post (but always reading the question Big Smile)

15 seconds I think It would be fine.

I always read the questions and anserws... i never ever thought someone can vote without reading them.
i think 10 sec will be right someone polls don't rlly need to much time especially when you have 2 options to choose.

30 secs to a minute is far too long. 10 seconds is plenty enough time to have read the poll and make a well thought out and comprehensive vote!

dunotra, you drunk again? Cool

----

Ok seems most people prefer 10-15 seconds, so I set it to 15... it's important that you return here and let me know if you find it too often that you're prompted about voting too fast, then we can put it down to 10 or something like that.

It only counts when the vote is loaded (each time), so if you read the page and then return later, you still have to wait. The other way is too complicated for such a minor task Smile

Changing votes is not possible either - it could be in the future, but the amount of times people have talked about it (and wanted to change) are combined less than a 5 times, as I remember - so not the most important thing right now Smile

10 - 15 seconds seems to be fair ... sometimes i vote also very fastly when the topic does not really interest me and i think we all do Big Smile
