Pub Poker...  0
Hello all,
Have any of the mobsters played in the tournys that are being played in the pubs? if you get first or second place over the allocated weeks you get entry into a regional event then win through to a final some where?
I dont get out to the pub that often so im a bit skechy with the detail but both of my brothers made first and second in there local and got into the regional.
Just wondered if any mobsters get this far?

In uk it is illegal to play cash games in pubs but tourneys is fine if the prize is less than a certain amount of money of if the prize is not cash. In this instance the prize would be qualification so this is legal. I expect the final would be in a casino or somewhere with a gaming license.

There are loads of different leagues though run by different companies and on different scales so you can't really ask how far we've got without revealing which tournament/championship you are talking about. I have played poker in pubs plenty of times but usually the illegal way, money in cash under the table. I did play once in a league like the one you described, that was two years ago and I never made it past the first round.

We have poker tourneys in our uni campus pub every monday. It's great, half the people are totally drunk, and other half are not as drunk. Best part about it is the top 3 prize is 150$, $100 and $50 worth of bar tab to get you more drunk! Big Smile

The rules in the UK changed recently, fcumred explain it all:

Right, there is some good news. I wil ltry get the link for you, but I rang our company head office and spoke to them about it and this is what the legal team have told me.

The laws have recently changed, and you are permitted to allow players to play poker in your pub and they are permitted to pay up to £5 each however as previously stated, the total prize fund must not exceed £100. So if you have 20 players they can pay £5 each to play. If you have 50 player they are only permitted to pay £2 each. If however you only have 10 players the maximum allowed in the prize fund is £50.

This is a daily limit, so it is £100 per day not per game.

You are not allowed to charge any rake, and every penny you take in must be paid out back in prizes, up to the £100 limit.

You must by law keep records of all players, all monies received and all moneys paid out.

All equipment to play must be provided by the pub.

So its not all bad. You can run your competitions quite legally ( sorry for hte outdated info but as I say the laws have changed recently ).

Contravention of hte laws however carry very stiff penalties, far more excessive than previous laws. Failure to comply can result in a £10,000 fine and/or up to 6 months imprisonment. They treat a breach of gaming laws as seriously as htey do serving an underaged drinker.

Dont think thats quite right JJ, last i heard it was you can use up to £10 to play with so 10x£1 games or 2x£5 games or 1 x £10 game etc, however must be of tournament structure, and any prize fund up to £100 reguardless of players, obvs gotta be 10 min.
Thes rest seams right, but it ws a while ago that i enquired. so it could be me being hazey.

It's forbidden in Italy.
But it's not so clear and often depends on local policy.
That's doesn't mean there aren't pub tournaments but are hidden.
And sometimes I partecipated Shock Tongue

They do it in Ireland a bit, but most of the time about half the prizepool goes towards this end of year thing where people with the most points get prizes, so you'd really want to be a regular to make it worth your while playing. I played in my local twice, wasn't great, probably won't do it again.

Well, i do think you should try these tourneys and get a ticket from regional thing, dont you? Also, i guess there s a lot of chance of many amateurs in this tourney because its in a bar Blink

I play a bit of pub poker, normally very small prizes for 1st/2nd on the night, plus seasons of about 8 weeks with larger prizes there and also entries into regionals/states/nationals etc. Here it's fairly easy to make a regional and not to hard to make state finals but the big games at the end (the annual/national) are a lot harder to get into and have some serious prizes. All in all, they are free games, good nights and a nice change to online play/

Pub poker is pretty popular in Austraia, but 99.99% of the players are incredibly bad and listening to their 'strategy discussions' is probably the funniest way to spend an evening.

Even though they're all horrible, some of then make good runs in tournaments and can win upwards of $10k. Its not really good poker but if you run hotter than an African desert, go nuts.

im in Vic, im sure the pub leagues are called IPL ?PL something anyways, i could be wrong, it doesnt really interest me playing against hacks for nothing lol, in Wangaratta they have it every wedensday night, i often call in to place my bets on the horses and its pretty packed, they all think they're guns too lol, id fucking destroy them if they wanted to play for real cash, i dont have the heart to tell them though. Blink

last time i was there some bloke asked me if i wanted to register, he said he'd quickly show me how to play and it'd only take a few minutes, i poiltly declined, i didnt have the heart to tell him that i probably no more about poker then everyone in the room put together.
