to be honest, i wouldn't even have called the preflop-raise (except i know the player is very loose). if you hit the ace you are dominated very often against AK/AQ/AJ, but you normally don't play against hands with lower kickers and if the villain has no ace you don't get a good payout on the hand. so its an unnecessary risk at this point. with blinds so low i usually would only openraise AT.
You took a big risk but you were awarded: right move to do in this situation is an easy fold but often bad ( almost bad, better ) moves are winning moves

Nice that you ask here and that you see you made a mistake : just think about it : the guy have a pair from ten to Aces, you have less than ~70% to win the guy have AJ, AQ,AK : you have again less than ~70% to win again, if the guy have a pair from 2's to 9's, even there, you have not more than 45%
so most of the time, you ll be a loser here and it will cost many many money on long term. only reason to call here is an enough good odd, but most of the time, you wont have it !
