i see no reason to play mind games with yourself and wait to a 'certain date'. What's the difference? If you have the funds already just play don't torture yourself.

This starting date can be a kind of superstition, and superstitions can lead to bad poker. Before starting to play, you can believe in any b******t, but after starting you can only believe on your hand value and reads about your opponents and pssible hand ranges they are playing.
If you are thinking: "I will only start next year because it's holiday time and I don't have much time or enough focus to play, etc...", I say: Well done. If you are thinking: "I will only play next year because I feel next year will be a better year...", I just have to say, Get real life, year change means nothing to your game, and from 31/12 to 01/01 there is just another day with a great party during the night.
If you don't want to play this year, ok, but don't start at Jan 1st, poker with a hangover will cost you a lot of money. Start day 2, if you've already recovered it.

Don't blow a tenner. Either wait till next year, or start in full force now. But just playing to "get a feeling" is a bad idea. You will play different from your normal game.
GET back in the game sooner rather than later will be better for u. Load your favorite site(or a new one)and play at a lower limit for the rest of the year to reaccustom yourself with the software and give it hell next month when the new promos come out.
Oh boy has he got withdrawl symptoms or what, are you on drugs by any chance, I know poker can be addictive, especially when your winning, but dont set dates to start, just play now and again. GL

+1
Superstition can be nice if they are light, but otherwise they doesnt lead to anything good.
The only good thing to have in poker is te good mind, if you feel better to begin on 1rst january for any good reason, then wait up till then.
Otherwise there are no reason to wait till this date, you can just start today.

I agree, all or nothing, if you start now then full force and not ''just a shot''

Ah, s**t. I voted for yes but I ment no... (Was thinking something along the line of: "Yeah, of course you should play now, dates are just numbers on paper, cards are that much more important, since they are... numbers on paper. But anyway, I thought: Yes! Voted for yes, and realized I ment no. Sry.)

Hmm i voted no as you have stated you want to wait on previous posts. I fell you should do as you have said, there must have been a reason for you to want to wait so wait. If all goes wrong and you blow the $10 then you'll just use the other $90. Keep to your plan it will make you appreciate the game more when you get to 2010. If you get back on there now just because you are itching for a game i think you'll play just about anything and loose. (thats going on my own experiance of really wanting a game) Stick to your word it'll make you a better player.
It really depends on many factors... 1st January 2010 is a nice date for the "new opening" in your poker career but December 2009 is full of promos, special events and bonuses in almost every poker room... I would consider jumpin' in a lil' bit earlier than on the 1st January.

First jan is a nice moment, but well, the best is to play when you really feel good for this. For me that's not really important, but if you can wait till 1st Jan, its a first way to prove you you have a good mental strenght. Anyway, good luck with this new bankroll
play whenever you want, but don't play for the "fix", play to win! if you want a fix play a freeroll or something. btw jan 1st is my birthday, so buy me a present please
