About those guy that like to lose  +2
What do you think when you see the online statistics of a guy playing very much poker (like 10 thousands hands already) and always lose : i mean, you just looke his graphic and you see a nice line going deeeeeeeeeep under zero... the guy is really a big loser playing poker...
Im asking myself here, why is he still playing. The stats clearly shows him he's not made for poker.
What do you think so?

1. He is addicted, but can't improve his game since he is completly impulsive
2. I should look more than his online stats (check live results for example)
3. The guy is just so rich that he dont care, he play to gamble, thats all...
4. He have just no brain.
5. The guy is very very very very unlucky !
6. Other (just explain Blink )

10K hands is a small sample 10K S&G's would be an ok sample.

It's often a mix of 1, 4 and 6. There is alot of players who believes experience is the one and only way to improve. It's def one of the best ways to improve but most people don't improve enough to rise through the levels only by playing.

There are also alot of players who wont take responsibility of their actions, they don't learn from their mistakes and get mad at the game instead, telling them self that the other guy was just lucky or the site is rigged ect ect.

Among the losing players there are also those who just play for the fun, they don't care for the results as long as they have fun. These players(all losing players in fact) are very important to the online poker community because they keep the foodchain alive with a constant money feed to the poker cycle.

Other.

Why?

Many people play lotto, lottery, bingo, blackjack,... Why?
They feel lucky and it is pure fun. Void hope is entertaining.
What is more funny than cold calling with suited trash and hit a runner runner flush taking a lot from a regular? What is more funny than try that stupid bluff they saw on TV? Isn't funny to push with A9o on a cash table like they watched that short stack guy doing on that tournament on TV? He was a pro and have beaten up a KK, so why can't the fish put to practice that educative stuff they saw on those televised selected hands?

Risking money is fun.

Hehe, i like your answer Racpxt. Its true that many lobbys are casino/poker in the same time. So many gamblers that just like to risk their money play casino then come play some poker when they feel a bit bored of black jack. Thats good for those who lurk with good cards Blink

To be a winning player at poker requires a certain amount of intelligence and a lot of study. Most people do not have the displine to become successful, therefore they play for fun. I love these people for they usually pay out in the long run.

the other day i was playing a $2 sng at ft 9 max just to relax and there was a guy, i think his nick was metronome, who played completely crazy, going allin with just gutshots or even calling allin against a same amount of chips with K6. I decided to check him on sharkscope and then I understood it all! The guy lost more than 700$ so far Tongue

I think there are lots of reasons differing between players. But we can't criticise these poor sods cos without them poker wouldn't be profitable for us. Let's face it in order for some to win big other's must lose and with so many around the break even mark, either just winning or just losing, there has to be a lot of people losing a hell of a lot. Poker is very competitive and even naturally good players can lose a lot of money in the short term.

Some people of course are delusional, putting their loss down to bad luck and thinking that they can change their fortunes. They are addicted and should stop whether they can afford to lose the money or not. But I think the majority of people are just enjoying poker, losing what they can afford to lose, dreaming that one day they might become a winning player but not too bothered if it never happens. Why do people play the slots in las vegas? They can't possibly think they stand a decent chance of coming back rich but it's a fun way to blow money with the small chance of making a fortune bringing that extra excitement.

do you have statistics of him at all poker rooms?
For example my stats at some poker rooms are really bad and at others they are really good.
Also you did not mention how much he lost.

it really depends on the person, type of game, and a lot of other facts, sometimes variance can be so high that you have very long downsings.
Anyway most of the time it is some people who can afford to loose much and the more they loose, the more you can in money from them.

Most of the people with such stats are wither people with gambling problems, see 1, or people that jut have no idea on how to play the game and moreover, dont have an interest in learning to do so. Most of these people fall under the "too rich and just having fun" category

I don't know the real reason, but it's Ok to me. I hope they keep playing Big Smile Thumbs Up

perhaps he just loves playing the game and doesnt care if he wins or loses.

Not everyone plays to make a fortune

They're just addicted simple as that. Smile And as some already said, not all play poker for profit, there's also people doing it for the fun of it.

i think most of the guys like this have too much money and don't care to lose for their fun and some of them are addicted to gambling but shift limits too quickly without any improvement in their game

It could be a combination of a few.. eg. a rich player who's addicted to the game, but couldn't care less for the losses, or a rich kid who's got deep pockets but no brains...
