We had a thread on this subject a while ago but I don't see any harm in reopening the discussion for new users or users who missed the other thread. Here's the old thread if you want any ideas.
It's hard to spot tells as much online as it is offline but I think a good player should always be making notes about other players at his table even if they are just a mental note. The problem is you are often not at a table long enough to really learn someone's tells or bad habits.

Posted by IslandJack: The "time" thing is a tell, but like the previous poster says, it's often used to mislead. But this becomes obvious fast, so that's also a tell.
+1 I think all these about "online" tells is pure hype. I think you can only rely on the same tells like on real world poker (except physical ones of course) like betting patterns and so on
making notes is the only real way to develop a tell on a player. I'll usually start with easy things like does he multitable, post out of position, size of starting chip stack. then I'll move on to things like ; Is he tight/loose, aggressive/passive; typical preflop raise @ what position, willingness to go all in etc, etc. Over a period of time, you will gain a general profile on that player that will be useful in playing against him.
