Well, you have mentioned it, disciplin. May I assume you have heard of bankrollmangament? If not, there are various threads here about it. As for MTT / Sng, i think max. buy-in is 5 % of your roll.

I think 5% is a little bit too relaxed... 35-40BIs is a bit tighter, but should help safeguard your roll more... move up level when you have enough in your roll for 40BIs, move down one when you don't...
ultimate decision is yours...
when you say you're tempted to play games that your roll can't support - what do you mean? 100% of your roll on one game? 50%? 30%? 2-5 "regular" BIs? If you're just building your roll from ground up - you shouldn't take any shots at higher games. period! however if you have already beaten a few levels and have a decent roll it's alright to take shots at higher level games once in a while... as long as you're not going to blow huge hole in your roll personally, i decided for myself to allocate no more than 2-5x regular BIs when I take shots at higher levels... obviously if you're unlucky - go back to grinding your regular levels
Sng's and MTT' buy in should not exceed 5% of your bankroll. I would sugggest 2% for MTT's since it can be difficult to cash and even rarer to final table. There are a lot of people who would disagree, but again the reality is that you will not cash in a tourny often enough to be profitable unless you final table.

you should read the thread about going broke , it will not help you but you will know how to manifest yourself after going broke... just kidding , well you admit you have a problem ... just stop calculate how much have you won from those MTT ... and you will not play any more for a while ... if you play every MTT like is your last chance you will not win big ... like you dream when register ... build a bankroll and then play MTT look for the final table ... not just to cash in

Hi!!
No secret, bankroll management + discipline. If you can do it properly, you are gonna broke sooner or later. For Sng, play only 2% of your bankroll. For MTT, play only 1% of your bankroll.
Use proper bankroll management or it sounds like you already know which direction you are heading. Otherwise you can open a thread about how you went broke and hate poker

In some sites you can set borders for your cashgame ( like i want to play only NL2 and 5, dont let me play any higher) and it takes 72 hours to change it. Maybe there are some sites, where you can do same thing about Sng and mtt. Or atleast you should choose pokersite, where you can put on filters, so you dont even see higher tournaments.

i think you can tell him a lot about BRM... Won`t help at all. Sometimes i have the same problem. Thats no quastion of knowing about BRM but on discipline. Mostly you spend more money cause you have that dream to ship that tournament for a thousands of money... Whren you wake up its starting to get horrible...

well discipline is key word, but also patience. At PKR I just deposited firs time and have to earn points so I got little carried away almost going broke, but luckily I did fine at heads up and got back... Played first 1$ buy in, after 3$, and than 5$. Now even do I have some money I still Play 1$ and 3$ more offen than 5$. Hope I'll last now for some time...

I learned my lesson when my NDB went down from $50 to $6. Since then I'm following the limits to the letter!
If you want to give yourself a "present" once in a while, take the amount you want to play MTT out of your bankroll, and stay conscious of the limits for the resulting bankroll. Ie. I take something out once in a while to play an MTT I should'nt, realising that my bankroll will grow slower. You need to choose, and stick to it!
