My first bet (comments and advice appreciated)  0
Sorry for the long story but a lot I wanna say.

There are very few sports that I can watch from start to finish let alone sports that I can follow from start to finish and completely understand. But rugby is a sport that I not only love watching but I can actually critique the play. For those of you non rugby fans, the greatest couple of months for northern hemisphere rugby is about to begin tomorrow, aka the RBS six nations. So what better time than now to make my first ever official bet on a sports event?

Originally i was hoping to get a no deposit/risk bet from BRM. I don't trust my prediction skills and sports knowledge enough to bet my own money. Plus I haven't studied the statistics or followed the build up to this event. But when I looked at what there was to offer, I noticed that there aren't any no deposit bonuses for sports betting. There are risk free offers where you deposit and if you lose the first bet you get the money back but I don't see that as a free bet. I still have to commit money to the site cos I doubt they will let you withdraw if your bet loses and I can't afford to place that kind of money on one decision.

So I decided to place a bet with bwin with whom I already have an account for playing poker. Now I have never deposited there so the money I have there is purely from poker winnings. I would most likely have to deposit to withdraw and I wouldn't bother unless I had a very decent profit. So my thoughts were I would make a very long odds bet to risk a couple of dollars and have a huge payout if i strike lucky. A bet that could last the whole tourney so I wouldn't expect the win but at each stage if the option was still there, the excitement would build. And I wouldn't care if I lost at the last moment cos the thrill would be the best part.

My plan was to bet for my team to win the grand slam. That means we'd have to win all five games and the chances of that happening are pretty slim, especially going on last year's performance. But bwin gives odds of a WELSH grand slam as just 13-1 and when I compared around that's the best. Italy have grand slam odds of 1001-1 but that's cos no one in their right mind would back them. So I thought I'd do an accumulated bet of wales to beat england by 11-15 points and Wales to win the grand slam to give me total odds of 130-1 but bwin wouldn't let me bet that combo. I tried scotland to beat france and a welsh grand slam but again I was stopped.

In the end I bet 2 GBP on a grand slam and also 1GBP in a multiple bet for the weekend's games, Ireland to beat Italy, wales to beat england and scotland to beat France (I'm pretty sure France will spoilt it but i went with scotland for better odds) so I'll win 8.67 if all goes according to plan. However I was still hoping to place one good long shot before the tourney begins but I don't know how. Any ideas?

As long as your sportsbetting aren't from an uncleared no deposit bonus you should be fine. Isn't Australia great at that sport? betting comboes aren't that great try to limit it to 2-3 games maximum.

Fair enough. It is a bit long. Even I get bored. Here's a summary

1/ the only sport I feel competent enough to bet on is rugby

2/ just moaning that betting shops don't offer you something for nothing as with poker sites

3/ I want to place a 'punt' that will make the six nations contest even more exciting for me. a bet where a win should be unlikely but if i do win, it will make a huge difference to my bankroll.

4/ I can't seem to find this punt at Bwin. You can't include grand slams in a multiple bet and the odds in general are just too low.

5/ I did place a bet though for this weekend on Ireland, Wales and Scotland. not necessarily who I tip to win.

Australia are pretty good but they are out classed by New zealand atm.

I can see why betting combos wouldn't have much appeal to regular gamblers but I'm not in it for the money so much as the rush. That's why I want to include several games and stretch it out if possible. Also I just can't get excited about winning two quid. I get that level of excitement from the game anyway.
