The Making Of A Great Player?...!  0
OK , as some of you might know I have had a nice little run on FTP winning over $350 in the end.
BUT hahaha you knew there would be a but didn’t you…….
I lost it all just as easy as I won it! I went from +$350 to $0 in the same time I took to gain it.
So am I worried….NO
I've come to realize that’s the way I am with poker, I love to play it and love to win but at the end of the day I'm gonna lose some times.
As some of you might know I deposit regularly and make withdrawals as and when I win. (its safer that way..lol not all my roll stays on the site), good job too!
The last run was on the back of a $30 deposit and after the first day I withdrew $120 / £72. so even thou I'm at $0 I still won something. That’s ok with me!
Now the reason for this post is to say I was whooped at the nl200 tables.
Now I've been there before but only with $100. this time I put it all up $350.
I had to much confidence I think and didn't adjust my game in any way I stayed aggressive and it cost me big time……
In hindsight I should have given more respect to the other players at this level, but hindsight is a wonderful thing !!!
I take a lot from this asskicking as I have learnt that to move up the levels you need to change your game and never under estimate your opponents as I clearly did.
So I have learnt an expensive lesson but a lesson none the less.
I'll be back at this level of that I have no doubt, but when I do I'll have a little better insight to what is needed to win and become successful in the higher stakes, and that is OK with me.
Thumbs Up

Bankroll management doesnt make you a great player. If youre a s**t poker player but have good bankroll management youre still going to lose all your money, its just going to last longer. Isildur1 is a great player and his bankroll management is shocking (although it seems to have improved). Bankroll management is overrated. Skill and talent is far more important, and consistency helps alot too.

Exactly, the day you gonna learn about bankrollmanagement is the day you start making profit, else you go broke over and over no doubt (no offend just the truth) Smile

Just about every significant poker pro alive has consistently said the same thing. To be a pro and remain their for the long haul, you must understand and practice good bankroll management. To say and do otherwise is just plain dumb.

Bankroll management IS a skill in poker, it's patience, having enough for the limits and tilt control all in one... Poker has a luck factor and every player even the best will get hit by variance and go on a downswing and bankroll management is the only way you can avoid going bust if you run bad for long...

Learn it xxxbchxxx and you will be making alot more withdraws and alot less deposits

What if (for you) its not just about the profit?
What if you like the game / love the game and treat it like a hobby?
What if you can withdrawal a little cash every now and again to keep you in the black?
Why does it all have to be about making cash and becoming a pro?
Lets face it how many players here will ever become a pro? 1? 2? 3? out of how many 191,382. I dont know.....you tell me!

I see your point and a good point it is.
I have not got the patients yet to become a great player....thats for sure!
I have learnt so much over the last few years and am still learning always, Bankroll management is coming but to start out at the micro levels and build build build! No thats never gonna happen with me.
I'm not sure what or how I'll achieve what I want from poker but grinding 8hours a day for $20 or even $50 or even $100 (thats about £60 / £65) I rather not play to be honest. If i cant earn more than doing a days work then why not just work the day?

Poker takes a long time to actually make a decent profit off (unless your already rich and can start with a 10k$+ bankroll)

But you will have to work and put in the time to get there at the start, 4 months ago I "started" with 50$ on fulltilt and considered 10$ a day to be big! Now I've had a few 30$+ days because I have a big enough bankroll to play higher limits now!

Anyways if you can slowly build up a bankroll to play lets say 200NL and make a buy-in a day for 20 days of the month thats 4k$ and thats literally the minimum you can make there if your a good player...I dont know about you but that is alot of money for something this fun and I would love to make a living off of it...

Just give it a shot, if you already have a job and only play as a hobby then start at the micros, its just a hobby right?
Then slowly build that roll and who knows in 1 year you wont be taking shots at 200NL you will be a regular there
Cool

GL whatever you decide

One of my issues is that I only get to play about twice a week as my work commitments are quite strong at the moment, then my family comes next. My wife and I have 5 children so theres never much time left for my hobby.
SO to build a decent roll would take years and years and years and years and years and years and years and years and years and years and years and years and yand years and years and years ears and years and years and years. I cant handle all that waiting around.
But you have given me something to think about for sure.
The whole point of this thread is to hear others opinion and get some feed back.
I think I have achieved this defo.
To all of you ...thanks. Thumbs Up

Well i problably misread ur thread Smile I thought it was about ''I learned the hard way, now i am ready to go'' Smile So i was responding to that but i problably misread it Smile Sorry my english is bad at times Smile

Anyway poker is also my hobby, but without making profit i wud stop Tday.
We all want to hit the big cash offcourse, why play poker and loose big money? There is no point imo.
About the pro thing: Yes becoming a pro takes years (offcourse very talented players can do it in 1 year), for wot i can see u never respected any bankrollmanagement and thats ok Smile Thats ur decision Smile I thougth ur thread was about ''now i want to step up, and now i do it good!!!'' I was just responding that with ur bankrollmanagement ur never gonna make it (again no offend Smile).

Anyway ''The Doms'' english is bad at times so yeh misread problably Smile
Goodluck mate, keep it up Thumbs Up

Theres is nothing wrong in playing without bankrollmanagment.
It does not make you a good or bad player.
It just makes it easyier to move up levels if you wish to play that way, slow and steady.
Its fine to have a go, thats the thrill in the game, the fun factor, and losing is a part of the game Im glad to see xxxbchxxx took a risk and is happy even tho he lost, and im sure to he will give it anouther go.
Its better to try and fail than to never try at all.
@ Doomdy, poker is not a hobby for you, if you would quit if you did not make $, than that sums it up.
Most PPLs hobbys cost $1000s PY, rallying, surfing, football etc etc.
For me poker is a love, I played well befor $ got involved and will never stop playing win lose or draw.
Better luck next time xxxbchxxx
