Worst things to say in poker chat  +6
Hi. Just wondering which of these poker related phrases and general internet language you find the worst at the poker table. For those of you who ignore table chat or have it turned off, there is no need to reply here. Personally I find chat is a good addition to poker software. I would chat playing poker live so why not online. But as with chat at the live tables there is a strict etiquette for what you should say. You must never interfere with current play for example, whether you have an interest in the hand or not, and of course you shouldn't be offensive to other players.

But which of these terms annoys you most when you're playing poker:
(Note that I don't rate them all that badly myself)

1. It was sooooted (suited) - The words that some idiots use trying to justify their awful play when in reality suited cards only add a few percent to your chance. Although in some cases suited connectors do have their appeal. Or at least they do for me personally.

2. NH / nice hand - Probably the most over used letters in poker chat N and H are often used to generously describe top pair. I personally use it all the time and don't have a problem with it. But there are no social conformities regarding it's use. It can refer to an uncommon high ranked hand, a very lucky situation due to several players hitting something or any hand with a large pot since the term hand is ambiguous in poker.

3. FIIIIISSH - From my own experience, this seems to be the most common insult among poker players. But do the people who use it really know what it means? And in any case, should you use it to describe a player who is learning the game. I even see newbies use this word to slag off people who had odds to call.

4. Donk - What differs a donkey from a fish in poker? Very few seem to know. I wouldn't like to offer a definition in case I'm wrong but I wouldn't use this word to describe a player either.

5. WP - For those who don't know it stands for 'well played'. But is it used too loosely? or not enough? I think some people substitute Nh for Wp. It is polite to reply Ty (thank you) for both although you have no control over the cards so Nh isn't really complimenting you like Wp is.

6. I would have had the nuts/ I would have won that - Yeah but you didn't, did you? You were never gonna call preflop with 8 9 so you can't complain you missed out on quads. Plus nobody cares. Do people who tell you what they folded preflop annoy you? It's even worse when the hand is still going.

7. LOL - Did you really though? Did you really laugh out loud when you saw we had a split pot? Maybe those cards were funny for you but they weren't for me cos I lost some money in that hand. Then again perhaps someone should cheer up eh? PS I may be guilty of writing this myself, lol

8. gg - What does it even mean? I thought it was good game but then why do people type it when they are still playing? Why do people use it in msn chat? Is there any point to it anyway? Just say what you mean instead of using all these annoying abbreviations. Then again, they are convenient and fast to type when you're about to be kicked off the table.

9. That's poker - Why do people think it's Ok to say this whenever someone is feeling sore after a bad beat. Bad beats are a part of poker, that's true but not one of the nicer parts. For pro poker players bad beats are something you have to deal with personally but would prefer not to have others taunt you with. You wouldn't say to a doctor who's just lost a patient that's medicine or to a policeman with a mountain of paper work that's the police-force.

10. Bluff - If you think they are bluffing then call. And don't ask them after what they had if you fold. You pay to see or if they want to show you at the time they will. You've only got their word for it afterwards. But who are you trying to impress with your incredible reading skills? If you're that confident in them you would keep it to yourself and use the info against your ops later. If you're not involved in the hand and you say bluff then that's much worse.

the its suited one is classic i piss myself laughing when people say that, its like an extra 2% or something and try and convince u its good to play 94 and such crap. The thats poker nips my nut these people tend to say it like u have never played the game before. a personal fav of mine is when people get knocked out a tourny or sng maybe they had a slighty better hand or maybe they went all in with not much at all they get knocked out and start going crazy sometimes i just cant help myself to wind them up a little more

I think it is a strategy of some players to chat with others during a poker game, because they can learn to know their opponents. If you upset a person then he can make a false move costing his chips.

I voted Fish (or Donk), just stupid insulting comments mostly based on the frustration of the posting that in chat.

The only one I use is GG (Good Game), after a good heads-up at a S&G sometimes. (or final table if I make it).
Just showing respect for the other ones play, if he/she deserves it. Blink

I think "donk" is the worst, because it the words with the most negative connotations to it when said to anyone who you don't really know. And it doesn't have anything "sarcastic" in it, it's just a way to say the player "stinks" at poker and just is no good. At least the word "fish" still has some understandable reality in it, because it mostly means "ignoring newbie", whereas "donk" mostly implies some form of stupidity.

Nice blogg to bring up the etiquette part in playing online. Was high time someone brought this up again, it can't be stressed too much that it's horrible when people who you don't even know get bombarded with insults.

In response to the OP, I would like to explain the difference between a FISH and a DONK.

A fish is a player who makes insane calls, relying on remote suck outs. A prime example would be someone who calls your all in after the flop with Ace high. He is literally FISHING for the ace to help him win the hand.

Likewise they will call on gutshot draws, underpairs etc.

A donk is an idiot with absolutely no logic or reason behind his game. He will shove all in pre flop with any ace regardless of whats happened before him. You could raise 5 x BB and he will call with anything because he believes he has a 50/50 chance of hitting something and you wont.

So in short, a fish is a player who makes stupid gambles hoping to hit a card, regardless of how low the odds are. A donk is a complete idiot who just calls with anything because they have no understanding of the game whatsoever... The classic donk move it to call your all in with any two suited cards because they somehow believe it makes sense to do so.

------------
My personal most hated one is "it was soooted"

The moment someone says that to me I know they are a complete muppet who has the mental capacity of a brain dead frog......

If you call a 5 x BB raise with Q 8 because they are suited, then you deserve to be hung up by your testicles and have your anal passage invaded by termites...

To me is when somenone calls donk to another player. That just dont seem right to me and its done with the only objectif of letting the oponent nervous, trying to tilt. Its just unfair game, because its the same as offending, calling bad names to other, and you cant do that on a real poker game, or you can be desclassified.
