Removed posts are alive in quotes  0
With the last clown bryanyork stuff I've realized that his posts were hidden or removed but, as we answer making a quote, the post cannot be visible but quote yes! So post is removed but its content still lives in quotes of other posts Aww crap! Aww crap! I don't mind if it is visible but it's supposed that the goal of admin is to remove any trace of bad behaviour in forum.

Yes but the only way to remove it is to manually go through every quote and remove it. In general people shouldn't quote stuff they don't want visible, so we'll just have to help eachother out in cases like this Smile

Use common sense.

Just don't quote nasty stuff => problem solved

you can look like a bit of a dill sometimes if that poster edits his post and you didnt quote him, if you abuse the bloke you can be made out to be the bad guy, if you dont quote him that is, so i always quote muppets for that reason.

Isn't it possible to refer to other posts dynamically so that, if you delete a post, the quote will also be deleted...?

Unfortunately not, because quotes are basically just texts within QUOTE tags.

If people see something they find abusive in quotes, just use the "report" button and we'll remove it. Of course the poster who quoted it, can remove it too if he like. But intentcity4 has a point though. Still, I would recommend simply not quoting if it's really bad.

This is just like going to the DR and saying "Dr when I do this ,it hurts" to which Dr replies " So dont do that " Big Smile

I realise that the point of the thumbs down system is to hide posts that you don't want to see but that doesn't mean that other members don't want to see the hidden post. When I see click on a thread and see the op has already been hidden I want to know what was so offensive. For this reason I like that someone has quoted them.
Obviously if the language is racist or extremely offensive you don't really want to repeat it but maybe those who do see the post should make it clear what was wrong with it. Try and give other members the jist or quote part of it with certain words edited out. Otherwise you only end up with one half of the argument and no one can rightfully take your side.

We might have communicated the purpose of thumbs up/down wrongly to you, because it's not meant to be "what you don't want to see", cause you can just scroll past it, if you don't want to see it Smile The thumbs up/down is the only way for the community to "vote" on posts that they don't want to be shown on the site, like comments on YouTube videos.

You also can't use thumbs down because you disagree with a statement, because, as you say, it will be a one-sided discussion if half of it has been hidden because of thumbs down. If you disagree with a statement, you should write your own instead of voting the other down.

sorry I used the wrong words. what I meant to say was the point is to rate down posts that you don't want to be seen on the site. I agree that you should not use the system to hide opinions you disagree with.
But my point was that "sometimes" posts get hidden too easily and then those who would back up the op don't get the chance to defend them. And sometimes other members don't get to see what the op has said and so they think that others are treating them harshly. Whereas if those who rate the post down make it clear why they have done so, then everyone can be united against these rule breakers and offensive posters.
When I talk about taking sides I mean what is offensive to some isn't offensive to others. When the member justifies his post afterwards it can sometimes be difficult to tell whether he or she was judged too harshly. And many people still want to see the post even though others have warned them of it's offensiveness.

awood88 - I can't remember it exactly, but I think after -2, you have to "click to view" the post and after -5, only admins can view the post. At -5, the post is probably so bad that it doesn't need to be shown on the site and warrants no further discussion. That's usually how it is, in most cases where we've seen -5 being hit.

The comments left by this recent guy, was not up for discussion. It was just pure trolling and either had to be removed as fast as possible, or be voted down as much as possible, so nobody else would get to see it / act on it (until admins could remove it forever).
