i've read some of the book listed here and so far i think Dan Harrington's books are the best becuase of the ff: 1) It has concepts that are fundamental and important to the game 2) It has illustrations to help explain the above concepts 3) It has practical in-game examples to help you apply the concept.
When i was reading it, a smile kinda grew on my face, because it reminded me of reading a programming book. It was very methodical and very helpful.

I like harrington, but some of that book does my head in, like 5-18, the PP 22 hand, may as well rip that page out of the book, in short he says you wouldent normally want to play this hand in this position, but I will and now im going to fold. OK theres mor to it than that, but find a fiar few hands that may as well be pages ripped form the book. BUT POSSABLY THE BEST BOOK OUT THERE.
BTW 3 books, and id advise all to do the last one.
