------------ people buy/sell chips for Stars/FTP
Theres other threads on this. IMO it's not worth it if you're thinking of playing for play money to make some $$$, we're talking 1mil chips at a time for a couple bucks. Just make a deposit. Your hourly rate would be like 10c an hour trying make money with play chips.

SitnGoGrinders: How long have you been playing poker - how did you get started?
Circa 4 years, starting with home games for ridiculously low amounts of money, oftentimes for no money. Started playing play money in high school, sold about 10 millions worth (about $300) and never looked back. Did some deposit bonuses on EmpirePoker (a PartyPoker skin), so only deposited the initial $50 in my career. Started with $6 sngs, then moved up through the 10s, 20s, skipped the 30s, grinded at the 50s for a while before trying a few 100s. Skipped those since I was doing just as well at the 200s on Party and played those for my entire 1st year in college. Sorta took a hiatus from high stakes after splurging and buying a sports car, which was the worst mistake of my career since those treasured Party days will never come again. For the past 2 years though, I've been multitabling every stake from 100s to 1000s on Pokerstars. I had the goal of achieving Supernova Elite for 2008, and I was able to attain that in September of this year.

imho - its not worth the time. If you cant invest even twenty bucks for your own game, you should look for a better job, instead of collectiong playmoney. But thats just my opinion.
And please dont start with the student story that you have no money and have to eat macarones all the time lol- been there done that - I studied Recreation 3 years and I did had money to play poker and go to partyes also while studying university.

Hello everybody! Frankly I never thought such a thing was possible. This surprises me a lot but why not. There will always be people wanting to impress others by making others believe they have won millions in playmoney by themselves. See you soon for new posts lol!

Posted by Hajinnho: hmm, i have about 100.000 chips.... so.... might be possible.
but for what reason people buy play money?!
thats a good question lol...any1?
Simple, some people refuse to gamble, but love poker. Hence play money. Now, they could grind up, but considering decent play money game (and yes, this isn't an oxy-moron, if you play 'top stakes' play money, the games arent to bad - comparable to nl25 IMO) start at very high play money stakes, for a few bucks you can skip that hours and hours of playing against people shoving all-in every hand.
I guess play money is also good practise for those who are very tight with real money.
Obvsiously we all know of NDB's and in that context, I don't see any reason to play for play money instead of free real money.. Unless you have serious gambling issues and dont wanna get hooked on the real money games..
edit: Also, i don't think 100,000 is worth anything. I think they are sold per mil.

this is completly ridiculous.
i mean i DO see a reason of playing playmoney. -You gain experience -You have nothing to loose
BUT NOT IF YOU PAY FOR IT!
I mean, where is the difference if you pay 25$ for Playmoney to gamble with it and depositing 25$ on your account to gamble for real money. In both cases you pay the same money, but in one you have the possibility to win some...

I'm guessing it's strictly because they don't want to start a gambling habbit. If you put in $25 real money, you risk getting addicted to playing for real money and it may be a bad move in the long run.
The way I see it, people are happy to pay for computer/video games. Or to pay monthly fees for playing a game like World of Warcraft. I think it's the same thing, they enjoy poker and they're willing to pay a small fee to play decent games, but they aren't willing to 'gamble'. It could even be a religious reason for not wanting to gamble.
Personally, I would never PAY for play money, but I do see some cases where it may be suitable. Also, for underage players this may also be suitable.

hm, i have another point of view. If you start buying chips again and again it is the same gambling than buying in for the same amount of playmoney imo.. but okay, there are always pros and cons...
