Two pairs vs Set  0
There's something bugging me. I was playing in a freeroll MTT today, being on 5th place out of 78 left. One guy at the table goes all-in, someone calls, he gets lucky and doubles up (he went all-in with A5s and made a pair of Aces). Now he takes the first position and drops me on 6th place. Then I'm BB with 43s (hearts), everyone folds except SB (the above winner) and UTG1 who limp in. Luckily for me (or not as I'll discover later) the flop comes
4 3 10 rainbow
I bet 2/3 of the pot, UTG1 folds and SB reraises all-in. I called ...

I thought he's tilted because he got lucky last time and he's trying to steal the pot away from me. The pot was about 100k, I had left around 300k and he had 400k. Unfortunately he showed 10 10, the turn brought another 10 so he made 4 of a kind and I was eliminated.

I know sets are difficult to read but maybe I was too hasty. Still, I can't believe he limped with 10 10 when nobody raised before and he just waited to get lucky. Did I play bad or there was absolutely no tell that he's holding a set?

It's a bit of a tough call because play is so loose in a freeroll. He could have easily had AT and thought top pair top kicker was good enough, but I would have suspected a higher two pair instead, and probably folded.

In an MTT - particularly in a freeroll, I'd make that call every time..

I'm more wary of sets though when playing cash with a deepstack.. like, I'm unlikely to call 300bb in a cash game if i flop bottom two pair..

But in an MTT - it's quite acceptable to stack-off with TPTK and certainly if you flop 2 pair against somebody who's recently shown themselves to be a complete donk..

Limping 1010 in that position just further confirmed their donk status IMO - it's a classic donk play atm to limp high PPs.

Yep.

Two pair is to strong here to fold the hand.

agree, two pairs is strong here, but it is a risky call here in my opinion:
you had two small pairs (almost the two smallest pair) and if you can easily guess oppo have at least top pair or overpair to reraise allin; so this way there is always the risk a borad card is paired (except for your 3 or 4) to give him a trips or a higher two pairs.
obviously you have also the possibility he doesn't het nothing or you hit a fullhouse;
it depends on the target you geve to yourself: if you aimend for big prizes your call was correct but if you wanted only to get ITM you could also fold this hand.

anyway I would have called as you did.

How long have you been sitting at the same table with him? With the information you gave, it was not a bad call. On the other hand, a pre-flop limp from small blind could just as easily mean he has 10-3 suited. In my opinion, at that point there isn't really a wrong response. You certainly could have folded the hand and still been in good shape.

No, you didn't play bad you simply played a donkament tournament and this is what happens because softwares are built to generate many hands to go all in when blinds raise up. Then he was chipleader, so he had chance to wait your bet and keep hidden his pair of ten.

dnt think it was bad play considering it was a freeroll, folding that hand there wud be bad play imo
in buy-in MTT u might be more careful charging in with your bottom two pair against chipleader.
btw wht was prizepool of tht freeroll?

I think it was a good call. You gotta take your opportunities and make the most in freeroll, sometimes it just doesnt work out. It mostly depends on your read of the player, and how much credit you give them. My initial inclination would be he has A10 or k10, second possibly over pair and third maybe a set. Set is hard to give credit for since U have 34 and board has 34, so prolly not 33/44 and as you mentioned limping is pretty weak way to play TT, but then again its an online freeroll. You often run into very crappy/odd players.

And to the person who said they'd read higher 2 pair,T4 or T3? really? I'd be much more inclined to think set or limped in with pocket aa/kk/QQ set than to think they limped in with T4. Depends on blinds a bit, but ya.
