Does anyone make any money playing online poker. I watched online poker for two hours yesterday at a 4 8 table. The dealer raked in over $700 in those 2 hours. Everyone at the table had less money than they started with. Everyone was losing. How can anyone make any money....even if you're good when the house is raking in over $350 an hour.

Win more than you have to lose to the rake. If the quality of the players is close, everyone may lose to the rake. So if you play a lot of cash games, look for a good rakeback deal.

$350/h? It should be a mid/high stake for sure. On those limits rake is almost capped every hand with a flop, so it will be less than 5%. Most rooms have a $3 maximum rake for every hand, so it would need a huge amount of hand/hour to reach $350. Or it was a high rake room? The players exchange many pots there, skill levels are close, but you only need a small edge on the table to beat the rake.

This is possible. The higher up you go the closer the skill levels. In the long run it is defititly possible to make money if you play at the right level.

the rake is nothing if you are winning... i never knew any player(other than you) that took seriously the rakes...

I have sometimes wondered the same thing. Whenever I look up on PTR players whom I consider to be good, solid winning players and see that they are losing (like me), I kind of wonder the same thing. But key is finding your level and proper bankroll management. I am doing much better now that I am no longer taking shots at moving fast, and have adopted a very conservative bankroll management stance and dropped way down in buy-ins. Also enjoying playing a lot more. Gotta avoid the Peter Principle. GL!

I have wondered the same thing as well. I think poker sites try to make to much money off people in general. I would like to organize my own poker website one day. That would be awsome.

That is a high rake, how much was the limit at? It sounds like a high limit table, and $700 isn't a lot at their site of the table. They will just win it back in one hand, etc.

There is less winnings players in midstakes then breakeven ones. Most players are playing multitable for rakeback. You just need to know what is better profit for yourself and how you want to play. Becasue playing for rakeback won't get your skills better.
