one thing i have noticed about fulltilt poker is the number of Russian players , when playing STGs there are usually at least 2 on the table, not that I have anything against Russians just that compared to other sites they seem more common, this may be due to other sites having restrictions for there country , I have run into a particular couple on numerous occasions and find them to be pretty good usually TAG players with the odd calling station thrown in for good measure , and very occasionally the crazy IVAN as I like to call him who doesnt like seeing a flop just allin or fold,, on the 100$ fulltilt freeroll last night with 1800 runners evry table I was on had at least 2 sometimes 3 and they are tough to get at , on the final table there were 3 Russians and the rest were mainly Eastern Europeans , the main point of this post is that you never or rarely see a Russian in the forum, I can only put this down to the lanquage barrier English not being known by most of them , Full Tilt is the only site were I have seen so many Russian players and maybe Party Poker second, I have played mostly on Ipoker and Russians are not to be seen so commonly there, it seems to me that over the last 5-10 years Russians seem to be really invading the online poker world, I wonder if this is due to better internet access , more television poker shows, or just the lure of hard cash, feel free to give your opinions , I also find that the Eastern Europeans to a smaller scale over the last 5-10 years have also become much more active in the online poker world.
It would be interesting if BRM would show the percentage of member players from each contry ,270k members it would be interesting to see the different ratio per country
------------ come on Tony give us a clue, whats the percentage of Russians, have an educated guess

first of all i would like to put in evidence that Russia is one of the biggest countrys all around the world with 141 mil people vs England with 50 mil people what did you remarked is just normal to be ..but not only at fulltilt..after mym opinion at fulltilt are less russions that every other game for example : partypoker or ipoker ( all platforms ) and i play a lot on fulltilt...i think that are more americans than russions... second one ....and god blessed that didnt happend till now... if china will aprove the online games what will be? i will tell you...another post with to many chines on table )))
hmm, good point , if the Chinese start playing poker we are in trouble, I have seen them in the casinos and they are crazy, sure I have noticed depending on the time of day Americans do dominate the table, but particularly in the freerolls the Russians seem to be dominant followed by Eastern Europe, maybe I was attracting them, but these big field freerolls on fulltilt are new to me,, we will see

You are forgetting me.
You correctly named the "Russian" sites. FT and Party. There are a lot of us on PS too but we are not so noticeable there because there is a huge number of other players. If in PS software you go to the tabs Tournaments - Regional, you will see how many Russia-restricted tournaments they have.
The main reason for the Russian invasion to these specific sites is that they readily provide Russians with NDBs. All three sites have commercials campaigns on Russian TV. The other sites don't have promotion for Russia or other countries of Eastern Europe.
The main reason that Russians became interested in poker in the first place is that around 5 years ago they showed WSOP ME on Russian TV. Then more and more shows... Highstakes Poker, Poker after dark, EPT, RPT, Big Game... Now we have a poker TV channel available on cable TV - Propoker.
And then the success of Russian pros caused the real poker rush in the country. Ivan Demidov, Alexander Kravchenko, Vitaly Lunkin, Alexander Kostritsyn...Just Google their achievements and winnings for the last 5 years and you'll understand why every Russian wants to play poker nowadays...
nope, we could never forget you, as I thought , tv exsposure and freebees was the major incentive, a few years ago Russians were not to be seen in such numbers,,

Thank you for that post - I figured that might be the case. With difficulties adhering to United States laws, sites like PartyPoker and others would naturally target other countries with large populations. And the success of some high profile players certainly heightens interest. I have encountered some really good Russian players online, are there any Russian poker training sites?

I know 3 - 4 sites that, though not specializing in training, have a big educational section with coaching videos, strategy guides, hand discussion etc. The best site is probably the one that is operated by a team of Russian pros (including Demidov). You can google Gypsy Team, if you wish... But it is only in Russian

I play mostly FT and Party. Yes the Russians are increasing enormously, but mostly in the freerolls and low stakes games. The higher buy-ins get mostly USA runners. It´s the same on both sites except FT gets more Americans and other Eastern E players.

Posted by Pjot: I'm at the moment watching the epic five warmovies called Osvobozhdenie,
Jesus, man...where did you get this old sample of Communist propoganda?
If I said I downloaded it from isohunt I would confess to a crime, so I will just be saying that a friend of mine happened to have it...
I have only seen the first part, but I don't think it is as bad as a lot of other warmovies made during that time. The gear checks out, with correct models and such. There is, as you say, some propaganda in it though. But since they have commandered the Red Army as extras there are a some massive scenes noone could afford today.
I hate to watch those older warmovies supposed to portrait WWII, with american tanks from the 60ties on both sides, with just crosses painted on the german. That sucks.
Damn, i hate war films, they are usually so cruel. I know in those cases reality is worse than fiction but i'd prefer not to know how raw it was. Don't you know any good Russian comedy?
oh I see , I feel so much better now,, keep me informed of future developments with the Pjotschmoyster.com film site, by the way do you know that Pjot is a raving maniac who dresses up in womens underwear on an evening,, just thought I would warn you
