COINFLIP   0
For me it is sure thing that it is better to go all in with AK then with 77 because there is less chance that your hand will be dominated if you have AK. But what when you are already all in and one opponent calls...
OK. Question is:
When you feel better (what you like more) A Heart K Heart or 7 Club 7 Spade when you are all in and one opponent calls ?
This is classic situation in poker and classic coin flip. Mathematically it is pretty much same but I guess all of us like one thing more then other...

Definately AK. When you have 77 you're praying for him not to have 88+. He might have 2 overcards in which case it's a coinflip and in very very few cases he'll have something dominated like A6. Not such a bright situation. With AK chances are small for him to have AA or KK, some times opponent might have a pair but most of the time he has something dominated like Ax, Kx.

Damn!
While reading this thread, I get 77 and lose 2/3 of my stack!
Didn´t go all in though. Had a straight draw on the flop and didn´t make it. Sad

Anyway...to the question...

77 is still a favourite over AK, I think 55-45, but I still prefer AK.
Chances are that the other caller has an Ax which is lower, like AQ or AJ, or A10 even, which seems to be enough nowadays to go straight to all-in anytime. Smile
And then you´re way ahead.

I will just about NEVER go all-in pre-flop with pairs 88 and under. Unless I´m REALLY down there on blinds and depending on the structure, placing, table, etc.

i'd rather have AK..too many cards to beat 77...it's much better to go down with a great hand.

I think you guys didnt understand me! You are already all in, and guy called you! So one of you have AK and one 77... Which of those you like to have?
Ofcourse, you want AK when you go all in more then 77... Like I sad 77 is easy to be dominated and if you get more then one caller youre in trouble...but I was talking when you are already all in and called...

If it has to be AK vs 77 obv I prefer to have 77 since it's the fav to win and repeating this "coin flip" enough times - the person with 77 comes out on top..

But generally speaking, in an MTT I'm almost NEVER calling an allin with 77 - since the BEST I'd hope for is a coin flip. where-as I'm quite often calling an allin with AK - as I'm often dominating AQ, AJ etc. At generally a coin-flip against most PP.

I may shove 77 in certain situations - if there has been no other big action pre flop and I'm short stacked - or going for a blinds/antes steal..

so are you saying, we're going all in without the liberty to choose which hand are we going all in for? Big Smile if that's the case whatever hand you're holding when you go all in, you want that.like your thread says, it's a coin flip.no bad decisions here Smile

i will take a made pair anyday over big slick. Remember if you already have a pair and your opponent dosnt the he has to hit a 3 outer to beat you odds are loaded in your favor. Have a great day Smile Smile

3-outer ?? You might want to redo your maths there..

For starts - the outs are incredible before the flop.. When somebody says 3-outer it means AT least the flop must have already been dealt - and generally the turn as well - before you know there is only 3 possible cards in the deck that can complete a hand.. Pre flop - there's straights, flushes, counter-feited PPs, etc - all sorts of ways to win other than pairing up one of the over cards.. You really can't say X - outer - at this point, you can only talk in terms of % and the reason it's called a coin flip is because the odds aren't "loaded in your favor" they SLIGHTLY in your favour...

FYI - even if you do only consider pairing up in the outs - then surely it's a "6-outer" ie; 3 for each over card...

Smile

Its not about decision... You have already made a call or player called you. What you like to have? simple as that... I like when people arguing Blink And I guessed that more people will like AK suited more... Somehow seems that AK suited cant miss when your opponent have it Big Smile

Depends on the opponent. If he will call with rubbish, a pair is better, cause he may have only one overcard. Of cause AK is better, if opponent will most likely call with a good pp.

I read somewhere that if you wanna get really good at poker, coinflips is what you should be practicing. If you master the coinflip... the world is your oyster! Worship

it's like this, best hand always loses. I say this because it happens every time i got the best hand, no matter what i'm holding.

I misunderstood as well.
And I don´t understand the different answers here in that case.
It´s a NO BRAINER and jess is right.

55-45 is EV+ long term, 45-55 is not.

So it HAS to be 77 as favourite.
Really, that´s a huge no-brainer. Shock

I don't get the point? Anyone with brains would take 77! Club

Yep. 77 is a slight favorite so all you can do is hope for a set or that your cards will hold until the end. Only 6 cards that can beat 77 in a situation like this. 6 lousy cards. That's not counting with straight draw/flush draw. If that's the case then the odds will rise significantly.
