Japan Disaster. Can we help?  +3
I remember that a little bit more than a year ago, when terrible earthquake hit Haiti, BRM members donated their mob points worth of 543 $ to aid the people of Haiti. Read more here http://www.bankrollmob.com/poker-news/2010122/mob-membe...
Now we have another tragedy and now we can do the same for the people of Japan.
Of course, if the site administration helps us with this, like they did the last time. Money collected can be donated via Red Cross or any other reliable charity organization.
I have 1716 mob points. It is worth 17 $. I don't see any better use for it than give it to a good cause.
What do you, guys, think?

Japan doesnt need money, what japan really needs right now is clean water, blankets, clothes, food and gasoline/diesel wich they cant manufacture by themselves at the moment due to loss of electricity and brokendown roads. Japan is a VERY rich and developed country compared to haiti (what i know).

All donated money would probably end up in the pockets of those owning the help organizations or some politicans in japan, those who have lost their homes cars and family would probably not see a cent of the money donated.

This is what i PERSONALLY belive is the truth at the moment and im hoping im wrong.

But of course if im given the opportunity im going to donate my 3 $ worth of mob points Tongue

schmoyster, your gesture is keen and very worthy of an unselfish individual and I'm more then willing to give up what few Mob points I have. I know, Davoodoo isn't meaning to be hasty, but I see truth to his reply. The $$ or points are meaningless to me so the only thing I could comment is, if this occurs, the intentions and hopes as to where the $ will go is what matters the most. I'll keep reading to see what's up. Good Luck to all!

Dave I hope you are wrong too, because there is just isn't ever enough good going on in the world these days. I will keep Japan in my prayers, and maybe donate some mob points, at least I will sleep soundly at night. Cool

Great idea schmoyster, i hope davoodoo is wrong but i don't know.
Far as i know Japan has enough money and has not asked any country for
financial help and they need as davoodoo said other forms of help.
But ofcourse if it helps i'm willing to donate my 2000+ points Cool

You're probably right in a lot of cases - however - it would come down to careful selection as to who you give your money to.. A lot of money going to Haiti (probably a greater portion than if donating to Japan) would have ended in very corrupt hands also.. it is unavoidable in this situations unfortunately..

I'm agree a lot with Davoodoo.

First off though, this is easy for you schmoyster. You never had any relatives killed in a sucker punch b***h move attack like Pearl Harbor. I'm still sore about that.

But Like Davoodoo said, Japan is a well developed nation. They dont really need the help. They can take care of themselves, and if not, maybe they wont be able to build anymore nuclear reactors then. Oh darn.

Haiti was way different. Haiti is like a little retarded kid, who can't fend for himself. You gotta help that out. Even though I chose not to.

Im more about helping out locally. When was the last time someone on the other side of the world helped me out? Or helped out when a disaster happened where I live? Americas got problems as it is. The economy has been so bad, Haiti threw a benefit concert to help out Detroit.

Japan should not be given money, Japan should be slapped with a fine for allowing a nuclear disaster to happen. We all have to live on this same ball of dirt. The rest of the world has learned a lot since Chernobyl and 3 Mile Island. I wanna know, whose brilliant idea was it to put 5 or 6 nuclear power plants right smack on top of each other?

The idea is noble, indeed. Not sure it would make a diff, but it would be an image boost. Ofc, it would be seen and taken as taking profit to gain publicity by at least some. And Codd, i must disagree with you. If this happened to US and you and your family would be in the middle of the disaster, what would u say about some japanese guy saying something like US should receive no simpathy because of a 50 yrs old grudge for Hiroshima and because it had nuclear facilities in the way of a 1 in a million chance combo disaster Question

Thank you all for your feedback.
It is always an issue with charity: whether it will reach the recipient or gets stolen on the way. Somehow, I feel that in case of Japan there are more chances (than with Haiti) that donations will go where they were aimed to.
Also I can't agree to the concept that if disaster hits a rich country there is no need to donate.

But in any case, the whole this undertaking depends on the Admin. If he decides that many users support this idea he will help organize it. If not, ... no problem, I'll find the way to support the people of Japan.

Hmmm...I doubt there is much corruption in Japan but the idea is great. My mates and I have raised about $1K in all now and we hope to raise more by end of the month before we donate it.
