Mahdrof's Blog  +3
I have enjoyed having a couple of blogs since I started posting at BRM, but since both of them dealt with trying to build bankrolls from scratch that ended up tanking, they came to an end. This blog will just be about poker and whatever other rambliings come to mind. The first thing today was to remove the avatar I have used since the beginning and put my picture up. It was taken a couple of years ago when I first shaved my head as a fundraiser for my wife's participation in the Walk to End Breast Cancer, a two day 60 km walk. Since then, with my hair disappearing and turning gray I have kept it short. GL on the felt! Smile

Hey dude good for you on the fundraiser. I to did something similar. 4 years ago I cut off all my hair, donated it to Sick Kids Hospital in Toronto. Sent 22 inches to be turned into wigs for the kids with cancer. I to have kept it shaved off.

You have my respect just for doing that. Lost my mom to cancer when I was just 14. And many other close relatives since then. Take care, be safe. Good luck on and off the felts...

Must have been hard losing you mom at such a young age. My dad passed away in an accident almost a year ago, happened right in front of me and the kids, and am only now starting to get over the suddenness and the visuals of the scene. Cancer certainly know no pity and has taken my aunt as well as a few friends.

Thanks for the words of encouragement Jovi, I have been sick all week with whatever has been ailing me, and am looking forward to feeling better soon. I have been playing turbo SNGs in the meantime, rebuilding my roll after a series of bad beats and poor play on my part.

Thanks for the nice comments guys, I am far from being pro but I try to share some of what I have learned. From their writings I consider members like B1gfoot, Doomdy, Jessthehuman and a few others to be ahead of me in their knowledge and approach to the game, so make sure you pay attention when these guys contribute!

Sure dude, sounds interesting and will participate if possible. Life often gets in the way of my poker playing and that's the way it has to be, and is one of the reasons I typically play cash games or turbo SNG. I know sometimes I can ramble about things that are more or less interesting, just tune out the stories of when I was in my twenties (sigh) and it should work out! Blink

Today I am 42 f*cking years old! Some of the guys I work with look at me the way I used to look at old timers - I'll NEVER be that age! Young forever, party hearty and blast the GNR on the car radio!

One last thing in my blog: you guys in the US. Since the freerolls started a few new steady forum contributors from the US have found a place, and I hope you stay while all this mess is figured out. The rumblings have been there for a while, not only in the US but elsewhere, so it is shocking the way it happened, but not surprising that they finally did something. I have played online for four years and have enjoyed the ability to play seamlessly against people from all over the globe, and have even become friendly over the years with some poker regs. I have also enjoyed freedom from the relentless way governments are digging into my wallet to fund wasteful spending and projects of dubious value. Around here lately, the amount of police patrolling places where they can EASILY give out tons of tickets leads me to believe that this has become a source of extra taxation. Recently a police chief here admitted to officers having a quota system, but lately things have gotten out of hand. One thing about online poker I have not appreciated, however, is that I do not have total trust in these websites to conduct their business ethically 100% of the time.

Lately when I have been thinking about the future of online poker, I have a feeling that governments worldwide, as they progressively seek to control and take their cut will kill this game. Until then, those of us that can still play: enjoy, this might end up being a brief chapter in the long history of card games. I sincerely hope not. In the meantime, GL on the felt!

After going nearly 2.5 years without flopping a straight flush, I posted a steel wheel a few weeks ago that I flopped, and here is another beauty. Problem is, nobody bought in! Checked the flop and preflop aggressor checked, and when another diamond came out I bet a small amount hoping he had made a very strong flush (like A high), but no, he folded. Sad

On the plus side, finally feeling better. On the minus side, wondering how much longer online poker will exist. Too much fun. Smile

After a couple of months of not graphing my results, I finally got my rear in gear yesterday and created one in excel. Nothing fancy but I find it keeps me focused on results, and so far so good. I have always advocated charting of results to BRM members, time to listen to my own advice!

After years of playing small amounts in SNGs, more to blow off steam or not jeopardize my roll after a good day, I have been paying more attention to this side with good results. Rock on! Cool

you should post more good hands or tasty pots and wins its interesting, the reason ive posted the odd one i have in the last little while is part because its always at a crazy time in the morning and ive no one else to tell lol and part some people find it nice to read a nice score at the tables. I always like to see what mobsters are winning Thumbs Up

Okay, I’ll post some of the good and some of the bad. First, yesterday a hand at PLO which drove me crazy, with the flop coming down J66, I shoved with JJ when preflop raiser Mr. AA potted it, and a guy with a 6 called. I don’t know about you, but if I am playing PLO, the pot is raised preflop, and I have the 6 and two guys are shoving at it, I am thinking that somebody has made boat and winning is a 1-outer, so FOLD!
This morning flopped quads and made a decent pot of it, flat called pre-flop raiser, check-check on the turn, he checked and I put out a half-pot sucker bet which he called.

Here is a link to a blog of a poker player I used to play against occasionally when he was playing NL400 and NL600. Pretty interesting and obscene amounts of $$$!

You know Jovi, I have been missing old scary eyes too, so I agree, time to undo the shackles and let him back out of the tool shed. Alright mobsters, the nightmare is back! If you see this guy lurking around double-lock the doors, get your guns out and start dialing for the police. MWAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!! Evil

After losing a big percent of my bankroll this morning, I took a breather, came back and won most of it back within a few $ of my starting point. Lately I have been doing well at the 20 person turbo SNGs on 888, where top 3 make the money, so I started one. I was absolutely card dead the whole tourney, got lucky to survive and after a while I got to the final table with a little less than my starting stack of 800, and actually managed to win after 32 more hands and post a decent gain. Party on!
Big Smile
