The past two weeks have been really tough, one of the worst downswings in a while. Normally my turbo 6 person SNGs are steady easy games to beat, but my timing has been off, zig when I should zag, etc. Cash games not much better. Getting sucked out on and bad beats galore, plus loads of bad calls on my part when I am behind. The one bright spot this morning: chip and a chair micro SNG. Alone on big blind, button min raised and I shoved with pocket 6s, his QTs hit straight leaving me with $134 in chips. Next hand was dealt AA, won that and after 18 more hands I won.
I ordered the book recommended by Jessthehuman, "Professional No-Limit Hold 'Em: Volume I", and looking to work on my strategy and get back my cash game mojo. I think too much stress at work and all the back to school acitivities and traffic jams are buggering up my brain. I'll probably take a day off soon to try and unwind. Maybe have a nice cigar and have a glass of Jack Daniel's, sit down by the lake and let the stress ooze out....

A couple of weeks have gone by since my last blog post, and I have to say I am continuing to go through my roughest stretch ever. Bad beats and bad decisions have continued to plague my cash game to the point where my roll on 888 was almost zero. I have been rebuilding through SNGs, reviewing my cash game strategy, and have started to re-enter the cash arena with lukewarm results. I think (hope) it will get better soon. The good returns on my SNG game have started to make me think about returning to PokerStars and building there.
Received the book recommended by Jessthehuman, "Professional No-Limit Hold 'Em: Volume I", and will start reading it soon and turning things around.

i know what you mean sometimes when you hit a bad run you are playing bad to and if your playing good you get unlucky, your doing the right thing in my eyes have a look where you are going wrong try fix it and and hope the hope gods look on you kindly

downswings can be really troubling but u did great by changing to sng and coverup the losses. PNLHE is good book will surely help you cover your leaks, gl when u take ur next shot

Thanks for the encouraging words guys. Still going well on SNG, my graph on Sh**kscope is the highest it has been in a LONG time, which is nice to see. Certainly had my big swings in the early days when I first started online. Before returning to cash play, I am waiting to feel good, not be overly tired and be able to multitable it. Still haven’t gotten to my new poker book. GL all!

After a long time not being able to hit much last night offered a glimmer of hope. Had a 20NL cash game going and I hit these two stunners back to back. First, raise with AKo hits second nut flush draw and gutshot vs. opponent with trips. Turn gives me the straight at which point Mr. Trips reraises/shoves and I call. Next hand KK in the blinds, aggressive player who has been tweaking my cookies raises, I shove and he insta-calls with TT and…. KK holds. Is the monkey off my back? Looking forward to a proper session to evaluate further, but in the meantime it was a nice shot to the arm for a bankroll which had dwindled to $10. Yep, $10. Now nicely into the hundreds and don’t ever want to go back down that far again.

Nice to see you coming back on tracks! Next thing, thousands!!! Maybe Im starting to be boring but you must find installation for old 888 software (I saw few on internet) because if you play NL20 you should not miss video tables! Had 200$ profit from 3 days playing on them. They are soft like NL2 Just little illustration: Guy joins table and starts to act crazy from first hand. You know, crazy bluffs, reraising pot every hand and stuff. He raises 80c and I call with K J and flop comes 10 8 10 and I bet pot my flush draw with two overs and he insta reraises me 4$. I know that he could have anything and I know he dont have 10 since he had two good hands before and he did not play them aggressive so I decide to ship thinking that K high might be good and he CALL. Now, I think, s**t! He had at least 8 and her shows 2 3 !!!!!!! Guy actually called me with 3 high with no draw and with paired board. And that was 16$ call! Thats how bad people play there. Thats worse call I saw in my life (it cant be worse then that right???) Now, off course, he hit 3 on turn and river brings 7 but I still took him lot of money later. So, I think that you should find installation for old software just to be able to get back old look and try thees sometime Sorry, If Im boring but since you play on 888 and you are my friend I cant miss to point you this one more time. Thanks for the advice Jovica. I need to get a webcam however, so maybe sometime in the next couple of months I will give it a try. The spare laptop we have has the new version on it, and I have played successfully with it, but still prefer the old. Whatever though, wherever fish swim - that is where you need to be, right?
Cash game continued to gain strength. Last night, again too tired to set up and multitable at the end of a long day, had a 9 person SNG and NL30 table going while watching TV when I hit nut flush on the turn, and then on the river kept reraising the chip leader who kept reraising me! At one point had to look at the board carefully to make sure that I had the nuts (no paired board, no straight flush, yippy!) before shoving. With ATo he had top pair and top kicker on the board, and after the hand he said “I need to get my eyes checked, I thought I had flush”, but I think he was trying to save face. Yet another reason I always have the software set to replenish my stack the instant it is not full, because when you hit the nuts and get a customer it is time to MAXIMIZE!

I don't mean that I don't have software, I just physically don't have a webcam! I keep up with technology pretty well for a middle aged guy who is rapidly becoming an old fart, but I just don't have time for a lot of stuff unless it is REALLY important. Talk to me when you have a few kids and you'll see what I mean. I haven't even been able to find time to put together a decent cash game multitable session in weeks now. WEEKS! FFS!

Def. not upset jovica! You will see that although family takes its rightful place front and centre, it is not always easy to accept that. Last night I was supposed to go play live poker for the first time in five months, and instead chose to stay home and help my son with some homework he is having trouble with. In two weeks I am taking my last week of vacation to get everything ready around here for winter, and THEN, HOPEFULLY, I can go!

Cash game is picking up steam. Up early this morning, just playing a SNG with a cash game on the side to keep things moving, and as has been happening a lot lately I bubbled with a bad beat, but won three BI at my cash game. SNGs lately are flatlining: going deep but either bubbling on a bad beat, or getting to heads up, usually with big chip lead, and running into monsters (usually AA) with strong hands like AQs. I consider it a sign that my game is healthy when if one type of poker is not working out, I can switch to another, recoup losses and post gains. Glad to see some players are still in a generous mood and will stack off with middle pair and weak kicker against my pocket rockets. GL!

I am close to officially declaring my cash game back on track. After playing a few hands after waking up today, I sat out my games, hooked up my big monitor to the laptop, opened up a few more tables and brought my "A" game to the table. After about 10 minutes things were starting to click, and after 90 minutes I shut down, satisfied with solid gains and the kids starting to cause distractions. Gotta play focused. SNG game is stalled but Omaha HI wasn't bad this week.
Was supposed to be on vacation this week, but my boss forced me to delay it while we try to finish a large project which is already late. Not very happy, especially when he forced me to attend a conference this week and waste a day. So this week I will be working to finish that and finally get my week off. Too bad, one of my buddies gave me a really good cigar to enjoy during my week off. Today however is a beautiful day, so I think I will sit by the lake, smoke a cigar and enjoy the time anyways. Just like in poker with donk players, I am not going to let a moron bring me down. GL mobsters!

There is a chill here as well. -5 last night and frost everywhere, but as long as the snow holds off for another month I have no problem with the cooler weather.

------------ Finally got a chance to play live last night. The structure of these MTTs has changed at our bar league now that we are no longer affiliated with anyone. $12 BI with one rebuy in the first two levels of blinds, close to forty players with top four finishing ITM. After six months of not playing live boy did I SUUUUUUCKKKKK! Finished 16th, through a little bit of luck on a three way hand early on which initially gave me a good stack, but seriously, very wooden. Based on last night I might avoid the whole scene until I am ready to commit to more regular live play, 'cause to play crap like that was not too good for my poker mindset. Just had no "feel" for the action, wasn't listening to my poker "voice" and let myself get bullied way too much. At least online my roll is continuing to get bigger all the time, am practising extremely safe bankroll strategy now that I am far away from the brink, and enjoying the game again. GL all!
