Hey mobsters, after playing with hoodi at his place this past Sunday night (which you can read about in the thread he posted) I realize I need a lot of work in my heads up game. does anyone have any tips, advice, or anything else that might be useful? much appreciated
It's very hard to master HU games. You have to be very aggressive, your range from button should be pretty wide. It depends on how good your opponent is. You have to adjust to his style and vice versa. So I'll try with starting at 70-75% opening range (yes, that wide) from button and I'll play a little bit tighter on BB. Never limp, when opponent limps I'll raise him with the range almost as wide as from button (of course when I don't know how he plays). Everything else depends on how quick will he react to your style. You could even start with PFR 100% of your hands from button and see if opponent adjusts or not. But if you know him I'll start with something like 70% of hands, maybe 60% if you know he's very good You just have to play very LAG from button and little bit tighter from BB, but still very aggressive.
Also you should try to not let him dominate you in early stages. It's very easy to by tilted when playing HU
@dozn - well, those are just tips, he doesn't have to follow them strictly

Posted by SuperNoob: just distract your opponents with beer and babes
now, that's the spirit I like
This also works in one table Sit n Gos. Just tell them in the chatbox that your girlfriends best female friend (who is gorgeous and wears a DD-sized bras) is hitting on you and you don't know what to do... Seek for advice quoting "I don't wanna cheat on my girl but this one is a fox and I don't have a clue how to handle her... what would you do guys?"... guaranteed to have their stacks owned in no time

There are so much strategies and advices possible that its difficult to give some. Why don't you read a book or some articles about this, develop a couple of strategies for yourself, learn how to recognize your oponents strategies and then adjust your choice in strategy at any time according the situation and your oponents play at that moment. Make sure you don't master just 1 strategy!! (your playing only one oponent, you'd be an easy read) Gl
And yes, distracting with girls and alcohol works! It would work on me

Good thread idea. In fact many tournament players usually have this problem. On cash games you find many times in this position , so cash games players have a lot more experience with the heads up strategy. I personally always in heads up situation i adopt the Isildur1 style. I watched many hours of him playing online especially on SuperStar Showdows series and i had much to learn. For starters on heads up you need to play a bit more loose than on regular tournament. Thats the first most important advice in my opinion. Secondly on all hands you need to fold or raise, never limp. If you limp will opponent will feel a lot of weakness in your game. Use your standard raise both on weaker hands and also on better hands like monster hands. Also the name of the game is aggression, an aggressive play will make your opponent to start making mistakes and then you start to win.
