An interesting dilemma.....  0
Hey there Mobster's,
Hoodi here again. So as many of you may know I host a regular home game(if not see Hoodi's Live PLay thread, another mobster Funnyman plays regularly), twice or more often a week. So there is a player, we'll call him "Sketchy K". "Sketchy K" played with the original group of player's of this game, that was held @ a friends apartment. He own's the nice clay chip set we use. Now, before I came along the game was rather tame, though I have heard stories of it getting more serious before I came along. The action was slow aas the deal was passed, many player's playing out of turn, 70-80% of the player's would limp 100% of the time.... Your typical home game. unfortunately I can't help myself, when i see something that needs improved I feel compelled to do it. So first we agreed on a semi full time dealer, a friend who likes to come over but doesn't often have the money to play. Second I implimented a small rake to pay for some food(chips, cookies, soda's, and some pizza's), pay for a table, and pay out a high hand at the end of the night. Most of the player's instantaneously loved the new changes, the dealer kept people in turn and kept the game moving, the food and drink kept people from getting hungry, and the high hand draw's more player's...."Sketchy K", or I'll just call him K from now on, well he like's to deal.Alot. I had heard stories from the other player's of him shuffling aces together in the deck to create action, and I have caught him peaking at other player's mucked hands, as well as catching him peaking at the river even though he wasn't in a hand. Well despite my better judgement K, has been allowed to deal. Our regular dealer has had money and wanted to play lately. K, is a good dealer, but his reputation ws tarnished. I cannot say I have actually ever caught him cheating, but a few sessions ago, during one of his deals I flopped the stone cold nuts with KJc(on a board of A79c), well I had a bad feeling about the hand from the get go., and it's a good thing I palayed it cautiously bc, though K wasn't in this particular hand he managed to river the perfect 8c on the river to give a novice player in the game a straight flush with 56c. This was the first time I asked him if he set the deck.
Well tonight played in a hand that has made me decide that anytime K comes to the game he will no longer deal.......Let me explaiin a little, the game started as a 25.-.50 NLH game. K brought a stack of 100 one's fresh from the bank. K play's ultra aggressively limping, calling, and raising 80-90% of his hands. He Sold off about 60 of his one's and pocketed the 20's. He quickly was up to his initial 100 dollar buy in, or at least up to 60-70 even though he was now only in for 40. I busted him. He asked to deal. We allowwed it as it seemed clear he wasn't going to put the other, 60 he had in play. well after about an hour or so of play, he decides he wants to play.(oh F.Y.I. by this time the blinds had been raised to .50-1$ as there was a lot of cash in play.)
As changing seats would be a hassel it was decided to let him deal when the following hand ensued....
I am in the BB when I look down at 1010, now a player that took down 3-4 huge pots early on, but had been folding quite a bit since, opened for 3$, from the button. K calls from the SB, I re-raise to 18$, 15$ more. Player X the original raisor goes into the tank, K mysteriously gets a call @ almost 3am our time! But asks that his hand not be folded as he steps outside to take his "call" Well original raisor eventually flat calls, K comes back and snap calls 15 more. The Flop come's 8108, now keep in mind this is late, we are playing 4 handed total, UTG folded, as I said before original raisor was the button. At this point there is 54$ in the pot, K leads out from the small blind for 5$.... by this point all the rumours of his shady dealing are sending alarms off in my head , but I just cannot help myself, I raise to 25$ The original raisor tanks again, but finally decides on a laydown(he had QQ). So K, takes less than a minute to decide to flat call the 20$ more. By now the sirens are blaring, but when he checks the Q of hearts on the turn, I still move in. He snap calls, and show's 88........Now I'm not sure of the odds of 3 players getting dealt pocket pairs in a 4 handed game, but I'm sure it's slim. Now what are the odds of the lowest pair flopping quads, while the middle pair flops a boat, and if he hadn't made an extremley disciplined laydown(Original raisor), he would've turned a set of queensThis hand reaked more than week old curdled milk, anyone know where to find the odds of these occurences? I would be interested to know.

Wow, very much to read Big Smile (but I did it).
Well I guess the odds for this are very low indeed.
But I cannot imagine how somebody can shuffle a card deck in the way that cards are exactly "prepared" like this - especially when all of you/other players are around.

Once there was a little odd calculator available whithout needing download at a site with poker news, but since a few months they dont have that tool available anymore, you could try it there to see the odds. But, if your friend is that tricky and everyone knows that, why do you let him keep dealing for you? You should "put a hand" so he can learn and dont cheat on friends again, thats bad man! Me and friends also play with a little increase to the buy-in to help paying for chips and beer, that sure is a good idea. Now i will try to talk with them about hogh hand!

In my opinion it would be almost impossible to win if one wasnt comfortable at the table ... the slightest belief that the dealer was cheating or setting the deck would destroy my game totally, i wouldnt be able to focus on anything else then "is this a trap, am i being set up ??!!"

Change the dealer Big Smile

hey hoodi just a thought, when "k" got his call at 3am did anyone leave the table before him and maybe use the toilet or kitchen, maybe they rang his phone, that gave him the chance to go outside and take a deck from his pocket and re-arrange it then when he came back did he get the chance to switch it ,the first deck could easily be arranged in the shuffle to give each person those hole cards.......if not then those are some unbelievable odds of that happening

Hmmm, let me see this: Guy have bad reputation, you caught him watching cards, every time when he is dealer strange things happens, and 3 way hand finished full vs full vs guards?
hmmmm, I dont know... There is some chance that Armstrong was not at moon but there IS NO CHANCE that K isnt CHEATER!

May really hasn't been your month Hoodi! The chance to set the guy straight already went by and you got screwed. From the sounds of it the circumstances are very fishy! I think you need to speak up the next time he is fooling around with placing the cards to get "action". I looked on Ebay and saw some really cheap automatic card shufflers. If you get one and force them to use it, "K" might lose his "interest" in dealing. GL!

It is very possible for someone with experience to set the deck. I did two years in prison and am quite good at it myself. Some things to watch out for.... Big Smileealing from the bottom of the deck, offset deck when laid down to cut (this usually requires collusion but in some cases the cutter will just cut where the deck is split because it's easy). Looking at the cards when he's shuffling. If he's looking at the cards while shuffling theres a good chance that he's looking for cards to move around in the deck. Usually there moved to the bottom of the deck while the top is the only part shuffled. I hope this helps, and if you have any more questions let me know.

I'm almost 100% posotive it was a set up. Just the feeling highly interupts my game & thought process. "K" will never be allowed to deal in my house, I've made it adamantly clear. We played last night and "K" was not allowed to deal, just because of the situation from the prior evening. It's funny "K" lost over 100$......Granted I did end up putting the money in bad against him and hit a 3 outer, but all I can say is.....Karma's a bitch! Also I'll try and use paragraph form the next time I'm blowing steam @ 5 in the morning! Cool
