Question to all mobsters   0
Hi there Mobsters!

Been playing stt stgs for some time now on partypoker coz my favorites, the Dons, are a bit out of my bankroll range ( im still holding on to those 25$ no deposit that were burning on Bankrollmob's pocket Big Smile). Still i wonder since theres not much discussion about it here, which are my fellow mobsters favorites?

STG or DON?

feel free to say why. Dons for me are a good way to start building up a bankroll. always a 50/50 change of getting to the money. unfortunately its not much of a satisfaction ending up in 1st place but at least you get enough to try and double up again. small steps to greatness lol .
What do you guys think?

Years ago I tried DONs and did fine with them. However after a while the players started doing this: every single hand run the clock down as much as possible, and when the blinds get high enough start shoving at it. I like poker, and to me this style of play is bingo. Anybody playing DONs somewhere that the players don't do this?

I am a bit divided in this subject. I play more DoN than SnG, but i feel much better when i win an SnG because it increases more my bankroll. On DoN, if you bet $1.10 and you win, you will win $0.80. In a 10 players table SnG, paying the first 3, you will really double the amount you entered with, and people tend to play a bit different. Its usual to see someone who gets a good pot at a DoN stop playing, even going sit out sometimes, and at SnG thats not a strategy at all. But for beginers, i think micro DoN's is the best. If you have a $10 NDB, go for it in the lowest ones till you have at least $50. Players should define objectives before start throwing the money to the tables. Even if things start well and one reaches $25 playing $1.10 DoN, he tend to think he can do it faster, passing to $5.50 or even just playing one or two, and if things run bad, this is enough to blow the bankroll.

At which limit do you play these at Party Poker ?
I guess - even though Iam not very experienced with these - DONs are easier to beat, but more boring because of a.m. facts. But I think it helps to build your banroll if you can win 7 out of 10.

I consider, as for such tournaments as DoN there is a place, but I consider to play them not interesting. The skill of game in poker in them you will not improve. I know people to whom these tournaments are interesting, but I for SNG!

I played lot of dons (maybe around 5K), either fullring and shorthanded, and did good... and still play when feel the need to. If you play them properly they are easy to multitable and are an easy way to clear bonuses.

But IMO it is not true poker the one played in Dons: prize structure affects the playing style.

Last times I find them boring .

But if you like DONs, you enjoy playing them and you are profitable there..... why not?

I used to play Dons at bwin poker back in the day.. Even though i was about even after playing loads of them i cant recommend them. It was an up and down all the time, didnt matter how good i played. After "winning" a few of them the next dons I was always going to lose, no matter with what and or anything.. If i received A/A I was going to lose.. I really thought about being rigged a bit so that most players end up being even on dons and bwin making a lot of money with rakes.. just my two cents, anyway

Everone is entitled to have their own opinion, right ? I saw it myself a lot of times, the ongame network is widely said not to be very trustable.. You make a fool out of yourself anyway for acting like your opinion is the right anyway.. I never stated it is rigged.. just wanna say that it was quiet dubious at times..

DONs are good bankrollbuilders and quite easy to multitable. But of cause there is not that much poker played during a DON.

I didn't mean I am right and you are fool or the contrary.

all i wanted to say is I don't feel the need of another "online poker rigged thread": there are way to much last days.

everyone has the right to state his/her own opinion: there are threads (lots of) about rigged/non rigged (and lately they are really annoying me -but this is only my opinon)

This thread is about SNG and/or DONS: me and original poster would like to talk about this.
my two cents.

Hi Magatt966, I voted for SnG's by accident I meant Don'd, just to let you know I skewed the results.

I personally love DoN's (on the iPoker network anyway, not as much a fan on Poker Stars, bleck) because they are fast and you can afford to play at slightly higher stakes with DoN's (I personally bump up a level and just play one at a time).

There are two things...
I DID comment about DONS and made my opinion about it open... The rigged thing is part of it, I aint denying it.. and to the mass of rigged threads lately.. ever wondered why that is the case ? Its probably not without a reason.. there no proof for either way but you just cant surely say that the software doesnt have an influence.. anways back to the topic.. I prefer SNG over DONS any day, not just because of the point I made but also because like others stated before it tends to have little to do with real poker as its all about bubbling and blind stealing..

Ive been playing 50/50's. Top five get their buy in back +.04$ for every 100 chips in your stack at the end. Seems to me it's a cross between the two. IMO this structure works much better than DON's.

Never heard of that, rdyflybly. But that really sounds good to me as its not only about surviving but also about playing proper poker.. Definitly a good idea

i play lots of DON and yes they are easy money if you know what to do and can multitable them, but many people believe them to be anti poker and they can kill your game in other normal sng. tournaments. so best thing is dont restrict yourself to them and try other games too.

Id say start at SnGs build a roll and move to SnG (small) then up to MTT, assuming thats the format you choose to play, ofcause there is a lot more fun to be had at 6 man NLHM.
You need satisfaction from the game IMO, unless you truly play for money alone, Im sure you wout be getting to thrilled at low limit SnGs and bored at DoNs, but all good things come to those who wait and there is no satisfaction in busting a roll when it was not needed, so build it up on DoNs, or mix it up a little. GL

Im playing 1$ STGs at partypoker, sometimes even trying the 3$ ones. Lets face it, at this levels stgs and dons are almost the same in terms of "bingo playing poker", and you see the most stupid donks whatever raise u make and hand you have.
DONs here start at 6$ so i cant really touch them ( did play 2 on a tilt but manage to win on both of them Big Smile ).
