I just entered my biggest torny to date 5 dollar rebuy I lost my first 1500 then bought in and got another one so i had 3k I made that to 14k end of first hour which puts me close to leader from a tactical point should i buy in the add on 2k chips for a further 5 dollars
And should I have a max amount to buy in the winner gets 2k in dollars i believe and 600 odd entries

what is the blinds when you get the add on if they are still smallish i would take the add on but if its only 2 big blinds i prob would not bother unless you are really short but sometimes its nice to take the add on just so you dont move down the ranks but really dont matter much GL

As flipped said,it really depends on what the blinds were. A 2K addon when rebuys are 1500 is very poor btw so I probably wouldn't bother either way.
Moneywise if you take the addon or not shouldn't matter depending on the size of the bankroll. If you are not properly rolled then you shouldnt bother playing a $5 rebuy. It really depends on structure and your stack. In your case it would also depend on,do you have everyone on your table covered? You always want maximum value off your hands,so this is also a factor to consider.
Overall I probably wouldn't take the addon that basicly only adds 1/7 to your stack while it increases your buy in by 1/3,but for further situations like that,the factors I wrote up there usually apply

dont bother at this point,its all most likely to come down to one hand.the add on is one round of blinds,save the money and do another tourney.if you gunna do well 1500 aint gunna help you now.

If you have 14k chips, 2k is not significant. I wouldn't spent those extra 5 bucks. But evaluate the scores of your opponents and the payout structure and make your decision

I usually don't play re-buy add-on tournaments, (I know you probably already end playing the tourney) but I guess one important thing is how many players left? well gl! I hope you manage to get till end!

This is true, it wouldn't hurt that bad not to take it. Since its only 1/7 of your total stack. Still -if you're playing within your bankroll - then take it. As a *general* rule of thumb - ALWAYS take the addon. Pretty much don't play a R/A game if you can't afford the addon.

yea thats pretty much my thoughts unless i have such a big lead it makes no difference but i just hate not getting the add on and everyone is not so far below your stack when before it seemed a good bit

Get it if you don't have any problems with your bankroll, but if are a problem don't add on although you would have better chances with that extra chips
Add on and rebuy tournaments are pretty tricky, i mean you definately need to know when to rebuy and add on and when to stop doing it, if you are on tils you can spend a lot of money useless

It doesnt depend on if "you can afford it or not",the question is if its worth it $EV wise (Expected Value). Just to point out for those who say "if you can afford it",if he couldnt afford it he shouldn't even be in that tourney.

you should always take the add on cause you dont have to pay any rake from it so it is +EV. back in the day when i was a fish i never bought the addon. and rebuy always when you can cause its +EV too

This is a good thread, I always wonder what the technical tactical details are to purchasing add ons. I like the blind analysis, that makes good sense to me. If it's only one or 2 BB then you're just delaying the inevitable. But still why if the blinds are low. Would that be enough to have really made a bg difference in finishing position in the end?

Some times the add on is not necessary and some times it is. Depends on your stack, remaining players, places getting paid and how many blinds it will be when the game resumes. Having all these in mind you can decide if you should buy one or not. But dont let that desicion for the last moment cause usually you have few secs to decide

dont play rebuy games and only ones i tried had 1 rebuy limit, kinda limits the donk plays. when you have a big chip stack compared to rest and addon is small, definitely not worth using it, but if prizepool is pretty big and buyin is small then some extra chips will not hurt (only if your bankroll allows though)
