the more short term you consider, more important luck becomes a factor. if you play for years or put up considerable volume you'll realise there are downswings but in the end skill is all that matters

I'm not so sure about luck, good or bad. I believe everyone can consider some situations to be luck, most all as for playing poker, it's all about the placement of 52 cards and how they fall based on how many people are playing at one table. If you feel your having bad luck due to the way the cards are falling then you must change the way you play your cards. This does not mean change the way you play one hand or even a half dozen hands. Change the way you play the game of poker overall. All I can say is I changed considerably from when I started compared to I play today. This change came by reading, watching and most of all being patient. I'm not much for advice nor is it good advice when I attempt to give it, but change is a primary characteristic that only you can control.

Pretty much what Supernoob said..
@ OP,what you describe is just purely standard and is stuff that happens to every player. You do not have "a lot of bad luck",you have as much luck or unluck as every other person does, and if you are losing overall (idk, you didnt mention that) after years of playing then you're doing something wrong Basicly I'd say you must be doing something very wrong or have a completely wrong mindset if simple bad beats still bother you after years
Everytime I go from way ahead to losing by the river, I'm reminded about luck. Call stations and donkies rely on luck and unfortuntley for me, these are the types I'm regularly seeing my bankroll get fucked by. People may say I'm full of it, but HM2 is proving that I'm right (100,000 hands logged so far)....don't play these guys unless u have the nuts.

Sure AA is good start for a flip but gets cracked easy. Poker isn't all about luck it's about decisions sometimes you have to lay your cards down no matter how hard it is. You cannot rely every time on AA and go allin when you have AA or KK. Luck is a factor when flipping tough. So I guess sometimes I get unlucky finishing my opponents too.

You said no luck with poker, how with casino ? didn't play ? good !!! don't start !!!! I just compare play poker and casino ( if you play ). If at casino you have better luck maybe you have to develop your poker skill.
As I know ( from this forum and other forum ) Poker is just like that, don't surprise with bad luck, everyone got it. For me : to be winning poker player is most important, that's mean : sometime win and sometime lost. If totally plus ( + ) even just $1 is not too bad, I think. Just no have talent make money from poker. How many % skill and how many % luck ? I dont care, I cann't change it but skill ... I am sure I can improve.

Inthis discussion time is actually the major factor, i mean on a single session even the best poker player can be beat by any unexperienced player if he gets lucky...
Still over hundreds or tousands of sessions the pro will always win, so we need to have patience

Nice comment, I agree with "Macubaas" commented here.
As there is an upswing, there is also a downswing.

You do not have "a lot of bad luck",you have as much luck or unluck as every other person does
That is not necessarily true: If you measure luck as something other than abstract, then statistically there are people that can experience a huge amount of "bad luck" over quite a significant amount of time.. Let's say out of 1 million poker players for example.. take the "unluckiest" person from that lot, now.. that person has to exist not just as a statistic, but also as an actual person.. maybe it is OP hehe

for me is 90% skill, 10% luck, of course it also depends a lot of their adversaries, if you play with guy who knows nothing of the game, increases the chance, but you have enough skill to be able to handle the situation

For me Real Poker is 80% skill 20 % luck, But ONLINEPOKER its 50/50 ....
really everytime i just loose the tournaments with a 80-90% winning chance but then i loose, im just pissed of it, and never will deposit real money.....just not real if they call with gutshots and always getting it.....
Example: my last tournament i was about 5th place - then i got JJ, one player raised, i called --> Flop: Q J 2 - different coulours, he bluffed, i pushed all in - he called...... he got A8 spares..... so whats on the turn and on the river, a 7 and a 5 --> spares.....he got the flush, my chips gone to half..... next hand - i was big blind, many called... i checked with 6,7 --> flop 5, 8, 9 - different colours, i had the instant straight.... i was all in, someone called with 10,J in different colours and he got the Q on the river..... bam out of the tournament....
thats not normal, because i always loose that way.....
my hint: play only freerolls when you are playing online. in Real life i got a + on poker, cause something like that just dont happen that often in RL.

oh another depressed post, i've seen quite a few popping up lately, maybe it has something to do with the new year...dudes had a look how they performed throughout 2011 and frankly there was to look at...so a post here and there about the luck, and how is this possible to me, i play only good poker bla bla bla looks like a major solution to lighten up the issue...well forget 2011 then you have another year to prove yourself- go for it...

I think you're in a big downswing and I think the best would be to put large stakes and cut. I kept a downswing me two months and got rid of it without having to play on.

I agree but more like real life is 80/20 yes but online its even less then 50/50 because you have no influence on the software that will f u in the a every time just like u said
And about those freerolls ....dont play them to ...why play hours for a few cents while you can make more with every job i can think of...
online poker...just play PLAY MONEY just for fun and play poker for real with REAL cards....

Lol! +1
Excellent point!
Also, you have to be quite a bit better than your opponents to be a winning player; not only you have to beat them, but you must also beat the rake/entry fee. If all your opponents are of equal skill and luck, everybody looses in the end...
