Tufoyn, how could you?  0
Just look at my experience at Party BRM Freeroll yesterday. I know I could have posted this in the leaderboard, but I think it makes more sense in hand history, because that is what it is. I was in 4th, there were only 16 players out of 517, i was in the same table with chipleader, "tufoyn" his name. I was already counting to see if i was going to enter directly to the BRM Leaderboard. I was counting on doing, at least, 1 point for the leaderboard (6th would pay $1,06, so it would be 1,06 points), and if i did 2nd place i would have won 3,5 points, directly to the leaderboard...
I had 120k chips and tufoyn was 240k. I was BB, a hand came, i got J5, tufoyn called me and i checked. Flop 9,6,J. Blinds were 1.250/2.500. tufoyn bet 5k and i thought "i had top pair, why not calling?" and so i did. Turn brought 5 and tufoyn bet 25k. At this time i was like "your over pair will not be enough" and so i called. The river came: 2. tufoyn goes 75k, a smile came to my face thinking "i won", i called, and he shows hand 99, winning with triple 9's against my two pairs. I felt like if i had been cheated in the worst way. In normal circumstances, i would never play that hand, but he (and the table, but I will not talk about rigged poker) knew how to convince me to play that hand. After this i got a pair of 9's helping me and a pair of 6's that sent me away. And so i ended up winning only 0,22 points after 3:15 hours of the game... Sometimes the game is so hard to play... How did I let myself being trapped like this???
Note: Does anyone know who tufoyn is? Is he a real BRM member, at least?
If not, do you think I should complain about this to BRM for losing the chance of entering Leaderboard because of someone who just stole this tourney’s password?

Trapped or not, you cannot possibly fold this 2pair at this stage, if you do you have scared money.
Its unlucky but been there thousands of time, cant even bothered anymore, its poker it happens, next game.

You played it ok thats more important.

You could've folded on the flop (but there was antes I presume so the 5k bet was just perfect to suck you in if you hit something), even if it's top pair heads up, your kicker is really bad so you only beat bottom, mid pair and some pocket pairs. But when you decided to call the flop you were doomed, no way you can fold 2 pairs after you just improved on the turn...

Better luck next time! Smile

I got same trouble a lot, difficult to figure ; He had bid pair AA, KK or hit 2 pairs. I almost lost most of the time against pairs hit tris on flop . In your case : since start we have to make decision that hand feasible to play or not. If we push it, look like get nuts but in fact just get accident.

Greed got you. Think of how you approached the hand. You even said you smiled when you thought you had him. Imagine his smile. He may have been worried about 78 as you maybe should have been. If this was a normal freeroll and not late id instantly be worried about j10 QJ KJ AJ or hands of that sort AJ being the stronger side of his range. Because its so late and he is chip leader im almost sure he has shown some playing ability so as soon as he bets flop and you call he should stop betting if he doesnt have something. Its a hard hand and a real mirage considering he had you the whole way.

If you min raised him to 50k on turn and he dives or reraises you what do you do? If you raise on turn maybe you can save 50k in the hand.

I have this happen to me quite alot. The hand develops in such a way that one must almost always pay off the cold deck. I think almost every player pays off there because its a freeroll and the ranges can be wonky but being able to find a fold there is where its at. Cold decks happen alot and trusting your poker gut is the only way out of it sometimes.
