Narcissism is a term with a wide range of meanings, depending on whether it is used to describe a central concept of psychoanalytic theory, a mental illness, a social or cultural problem, or simply a personality trait. Except in the sense of primary narcissism or healthy self-love, "narcissism" usually is used to describe some kind of problem in a person or group's relationships with self and others. In everyday speech, "narcissism" often means egoism, vanity, conceit, or simple selfishness. Applied to a social group, it is sometimes used to denote elitism or an indifference to the plight of others. In psychology, the term is used to describe both normal self-love and unhealthy self-absorption due to a disturbance in the sense of self.(free wikepedia defintion) In light of some very entertaining, if not comical threads I have read since my last visit. I felt the need to write a little thread of my own. Which may or may not clarify my own opinion on the situation. So recently I read a very interesting article in Card Player Magazine, it was entitled "Narcissism & Poker" written by Roy Cooke. I have to the article was both informative & helpful. The following is my own thread, or article if you will on poker & the narcissists who play it. If you are unaware of what narcissism is, please see above definition. You see basically what the article implied, & I tend to agree with is this. Poker is the perfect game for the narcissist. He can blame the dealer, he can blame the bad players, he can blame it on bad luck, or he could even blame it on a "rigged" website. The fact of the matter is this though ,if you are not analyzing yourself, the hands you play & how you played them, especially when you are losing. Then you're run of bad luck, or running into "rigged poker sites" will probably continue. So when I read a thread about a "rigged" website, or a quote "bad beat". I usually just chuckle to myself, because I know if there weren't any narcissists or "rig-tards"( as I have heard so many lovingly refer to some of these people as) my bottom line would be much smaller to non-existent. So the next time you read a thread you may not agree with. Shhhhh! Don't berate the bad players, they tend to learn how to get better. Trust me, many a conformed "rig-tards" will learn how to relieve you of your money. Especially if you keep pointing out their flaws. I say live & let live. If they want to play K4 to a raise pre-flop, because it was suited. I say let them! that's how I pay my rent.

how many time do we here the same shwaine about rigtards- damn they are so bad, they should be jailed banned from this planet etc....but hey lets think for a sec- maybe, just maybe these rigtards do have a legitimate point to make- after all we saw what happened to full til and ab/ub we have clear evidence that online poker can be manipulated- so who can really say rigtards are talking nonsense

Nice thread Hoodi420, hopefully all the narcissists don't read and catch on to how their self love is damaging their game. Because you're right, if that happens all our bottoms lines will sink a little lower. Imagine if their was a site dedicated to providing faulty info to increase the number of fish out there?

Thats true, every player think he is the best at the tables. But the truth is, that a lot of player can play abc poker and normally it is enough to play et the micro limits. And it is hard to be quite, when you get a lot of sucks.

i agree narcissism will contribute to bad players/rigtards but i think its unfair and exaggeration to label them as narcissists unless they act like one.
and just because we are discussing narcissism- self importance and blaming are integral part of both narcissism and paranoia, so often people confuse these two. but central theme in paranoia is suspicion while in narcissism its self importance/grandiosity.

I'm not saying that all the rigtards/bad players are narcissists. I'm just saying poker is the perfect game for them. Here's the thing though if they are truly narcissists & continue to lose & get berated. They may not stick around long. A poker player that blames everything but him/herself, puts no thought into the game, or into trying to improve his/her said game is the kind of player I want sitting at my table. That's all I'm saying.

you are very right there m8 but in case of rigtards they are misleading other beginners into thinkin poker is definitely rigged. so many bad players are quitting poker or some specific sites.
