its very poor taste. imagine if that was one of your family members in that cinema getting shot. would you still find it funny? i doubt it very much. Disagree Thumbs Down

You could apply that to most jokes, "what if", somewhere along the line in a joke there is a subject, that subject very rarely is an innominate object, the subject is the one being made fun of, what if you was always the subject, what if you were the relative of the subject.

Morals are not universal, nor is what we find funny.

I always find it odd how, like in this case everyone feels sorry for the victoms, any-one feel sorry for the shooter?
He is a victim too, let down by society, that is you, you are the reason all this happened, if only some one told him a joker too.(see what I did there, I know not funny, just a shot in the dark.)
Most people who would find this joke morally wrong would want that guy dead for what he did, yay morals! He left people riddled with bullets, and you want to do the same.
Anyway, looks like a good film, must be, made a killing on its first night.

Not Funny and actually thought you had more morals and values. To laugh about this is to think about the day your mother died and laugh about that!

Administration shouldn't even allow such trash to be posted. This is a poker forum and to make fun of any death by a random attack on innocent people is terrible.

And for the Iraq war! I don't see funnies about the people dying! Anyone smiles about this will think about it when a tragedy comes your way! Sad Thumbs Down

If you really give a s**t - then you should maybe campaign about your countries ridiculous attitude towards gun-laws (OMG DON'T TAKE AWAY MY FREEDOOOOOOM!) rather than campaign against a sense of humour.

Your a bigger idiot then what I thought. Your talking about gun rights and if it weren't for the U.S. Hitler would of killed most of races that exist today. maybe yopu better stick to poker because your not human if you think death has humor in it idiot.

I don't laugh when I hear of any death nor do I make humorous comments so like I said, think about the next time you lose someone close. Your Mother, father, son, daughter or a spouse. I need to argue to express that death isn't funny. Like I stated, IDIOT, play poker!

Another 28 year old punk ass idiot go take more drugs.

My point with Hitler is, I don't laugh when I see old war films showing how he destroyed Europe and your ancestors dumb ass. Or when he used them as puppets for his doctor to do horrible things to. Like I said, don't make fun of people who died without just cause and you think about it when you lose someone close in an accident or nonexpected death. What's my point???? IDIOT

You can't go saying why did he bring hitler into it defending jess. When why the hell did jess bring gun laws into it.

Chill your beans here guys.

I think the obvious problem is this is an international forum. Yes forums are for expressing opinions in a diplomatic way, but with such an audacious matter to joke about, I think not even the best joke would receive the warmest reception. Plus the fact its not actually even a technically good joke as I've stated. The punchline (THE MOST IMPORTANT PART OF ANY JOKE) completely misses.

It was a s**t joke, not funny. Trying far too hard. Badly cliched. Distasteful. Lets just leave it at that.

------------
I do find it funny in a sort of sociological/psychological sense, the way certain personalities as soon as somebody famous dies or there is a massacre they instantly reel out the pre written jokes ready for when the day came. Its kinda shameless. Speaks volumes about the person.

This thread is starting to get quite nasty now, which I can't say is surprising given the sensitive subject matter. As I said earlier, the joke wasn't funny (although I have since read funnier jokes about the subject) and there was a high risk of causing offense so it was risky to post it. The OP surely realised this as he apologised in advance and didn't want to cause offense, yet clearly did.

I agree that humour tackles a lot of risky subjects and that we should laugh at horrible subjects and that more than often than not someone is the butt of the joke but it's important to look at the context.
Some of my favourite comedians tell jokes that make you laugh and then immediately gasp at the edge of decency. But no one goes to see these comedians expecting not to be shocked and you don't go home repeating the offensive line. It's ok cos everyone in the theatre is on the same wavelength and the humour and subsequent guilt is communal. It's all good humour then.
You might hear a racist joke and find it really funny, not because you agree with the prejudice but because you recognise the word play/stereotype/ story arch/ punchline etc. You then might tell your friends this joke cos you all know it's a joke but you wouldn't share it with a group of strangers for fear they might mistake your intent and you wouldn't share it members of the race in the joke cos it will always be taken as an insult (how can it not be, you clearly haven't considered that they might be offended and therefore show not to care).

So to sum up. Humour is good. And we can laugh about anything. I mean literally anything. But only in context. And you shouldn't throw a potentially offensive joke out there where you don't know whos reading it cos it shows a disregard for other peoples feelings.

In order to be affected by the effects of seemingly spontaneous, random, rapid moving events, one simple, yet profound in its nature, fact remains...one must simply care...if one does not one cannot be affected. Caring provides an infinite number of possibilities.

Idem.
Wasn't expecting this at all. Wow.

@awood88: Who are you to decide" what is funny and what is not?
The picture is hillarious to me and others, like the tilte says. Not funny to others, no problem, that is the nature of humour. Some will laugh, some will not. some will be offended. It is usually those who are offended without personally being related to the subject matter, that have other issues to deal with. Definitely not the issue at hand.

And apparently you saw "funnier" jokes? Sooooo....joking about it is OK then, they just have to be jokes that you personally find funny, I guess.
Right.

Your comment:
" But only in context. And you shouldn't throw a potentially offensive joke out there where you don't know whos reading it cos it shows a disregard for other peoples feelings. "

What a load of Bollocks.
What is the "context" you refer to? Really. Define "context" in this case.

Additionally, a comic would have to refrain from making racist jokes when he sees a black, or asian or whatever member in the audience. Sure, that makes sense....
And we could go on like this for a thoursand hours or more....

@Greenmohave:
Going to seriously disagree with you here.
According to your arguments NO SINGLE drama or terrible event can be made jokes of.
So according to you, all 911 jokes, all war jokes, all terrorist jokes, all Bin Laden jokes etc. etc. etc. etc. are off limits.
Makes for a very sad world if you have to continiously reflect on the horrible and depressing side of life without pause. Good Luck to that !

Nice try Jess, and you were correct in all your statements imo, as usual. Blink
Including your "gun" comment, because that is what the whole world thinks about when there is another shooting in the States:
"Here we go again, another nut with a gun in the US gunning down citizens."
Not saying it NEVER happens anywhere else, but the US takes the cake in terms of industrialised countries, and is associates with these incidents because of it's gun laws. Just simple facts.

And what's with the Hitler thing?
My parents were in the midsts of the horrors of the War, and still I can laugh at good Hiltler jokes.
Also, I thought most Americans realised by now they would be talking German and marching like a quack today if they had not come to Europe to stop a Sociopathic nut? And that most realise they didn't do it alone. There is a small nation called the "British" which kinda helped, among others. And why not mention the "tiny" resistance movement, which kind of laid the groundwork for the whole Hitler defeat thingy.
And the US didn't come over "to save Europe". They came over to save their own a**es. It a little-know phrase called "fear of World Domination".
Very disappointing to see you mention that subject in such an uninformed way Green.
And why mention it at all?
Why not throw the whole"slavery" discussion in the mix while we're at it?

I see I'm ranting.... Confused

"How 1 picture can lead to the downfall of a society".
The title of my next book.
All jokes aside (excuse the irony),I'll put it another way.

My dad is paralyzed and in a wheelchair. Does that mean he will not laugh at a good wheelchair joke? Of course not. That would be sad.
And that is what all this comes down to.
Self-depreciation "among other things".

From Wiki:
Self-deprecation, or self-depreciation, is the act of belittling or undervaluing oneself. It can be used in humor and tension release.
Tension release is the big one here. If we cannot laugh away some of the mysery in this life , it becomes part of our psychological "baggage". Heavier as the years go by.

This picture was not posted to hurt anyone, and everyone in this thread knows it.
It was posted because my sense of humour though this very creative.
You don't think it's funny. Say so and move on.
You want to rant about being "outraged" or "personally affected", go see a psychiatrist.

And my final thoughts. If you want this thread to disappear....stop posting in it ! Smile

EDIT:
I would like to apologize ahead of time to any Mobsters or their relatives whom I may have offended by replying to these posts.

Funny..

I hate how people can't laugh at anything anymore.

It's the old 'that's funny' internal voice...then the big bad moral voice of how you may be perceived if you laugh stifles it if you care too much about what people think.

I am so not getting involved in this argument, except to share this:

Godwin's law (also known as Godwin's Rule of Nazi Analogies or Godwin's Law of Nazi Analogies[1][2]) is an observation made by Mike Godwin in 1990[2] that has become an Internet adage. It states: "As an online discussion grows longer, the probability of a comparison involving Nazis or Hitler approaches 1."[2][3] In other words, Godwin observed that, given enough time, in any online discussion—regardless of topic or scope—someone inevitably makes a comparison to Hitler and the Nazis.

Godwin's law is often cited in online discussions as a deterrent against the use of arguments in the widespread Reductio ad Hitlerum form.[4] The rule does not make any statement about whether any particular reference or comparison to Adolf Hitler or the Nazis might be appropriate, but only asserts that the likelihood of such a reference or comparison arising increases as the discussion progresses, irrespective of whether it's appropriate or not. Precisely because such a comparison or reference may sometimes be appropriate, Godwin has argued that overuse of Nazi and Hitler comparisons should be avoided, because it robs the valid comparisons of their impact.[5]

Although in one of its early forms Godwin's law referred specifically to Usenet newsgroup discussions,[6] the law is now often applied to any threaded online discussion, such as forums, chat rooms and blog comment threads, and has been invoked for the inappropriate use of Nazi analogies in articles or speeches.[7]

That's brilliant.

Me and some old friends used to always end up brining up Hitler or Nazis as a joke..Hitler is seen as the epitome of evil, the Nazis the people of this evil.
So when something continues people start to make more outrageous comments.

Funny, just had a blow out argument with my g/f about a comment made about Andy Murray...which was meant as a joke and she was arguing it's not because it was against English people she found it offensive it's because it was a joke 'for Scotland' continuing the bigotry between England and Scotland.

A joke is for anyone who finds it funny.
