Now that we are sure that these are the 2 incontornal names in the 2012 Olympics and 2 names to rank in the top 10 legends of all time, lets discuss wich one deserves to be the biggest name of 2012 Olympics!!!
Iam sad that Phelps quited, but he was very smart to quite when he is up, and as the biggest name of all time with 18 gold medals!! Im wondering how many countries won 18 gold medals in 100 years of modern Olympics!!!
Even with all of this big wining of Phelps iam a big fan of Athletics and i stayed astonished with Bolt performance!! In the end i felt it was piece of cake for him!! Its unbelieve what he is doing, we are living history friends!!! Iam sure in 30 and 40 years everybody will be still remembering this Olympics and the great thing both have done!

My favourite: Usian Bolt
Phelps has done anmazing, incredible. He's single handedly rised the profile of swimming and will inspire a generation of people to swim.
But Bolt is the fastest man on earth!!! No one is faster out of 6+ billion, you can'#t beat the excitement of watching 100m.

So weird to see the best sprinters of the world out of so many people and Bolt dominating this way. I thought his start at the 100 yesterday wasnt that good he was almost last after the start. But when he gets speed that doesnt even matter...seems like he's running against amateurs almost...legend

I think bolt deserves to be a bigger legend because hes unbeatable. Micheal phelps has been beat in certain events and the 2nd best in every event could probably beat him on their day. Nobody can beat bolt, he's that much in control he can ease up with 15 metres left, when hes 10 metres ahead of everyone. He's that much better than every other 100m runner he could just play with them and not fully sprint in the first races, just makes sure he qualifies, then turn it on in the final.

Bolt is a character. Outside of being the fastest sprinter EVER! Amazing and beautiful to watch, isn't it?
Not going to compare the 2 athletes, Bolt is just my favourite and most people's, I think. The 100m is the "fastest man on earth" thing, and has always been the Olympic topper. Bolt is just destroying it.
Yesterday was an unbelievable race. Never seen so much talent all in the same event. Was hoping to see a new WR after seeing the heats...but close but no cigar. Nice though.

The silver medalist Yohan Blake has beaten Bolt twice already this year... Also he's the current world champion (false start by Bolt though, but still, that counts too).
Personally I like Bolt more than Phelps, but I can't in good conscience say Bolt is the more impressive Olympian.

I believe Phelps has 21 medals at this time and it's my opinion, but they always talk about the Olympics being ameteurs in these events when they're actually pros in some case. I mean the basketball team hasd pro players on it. I also think that if one has been in the Olympics more then once they to are above the ameteur level. I know that's off topic to your subject, but your talking Olympics and I wanted to get some thoughts on this matter. Hope I didn't impose!

Serbs will NEVER forget and forgive situation from last Olympic games when gold was stolen from Cavic by Omega. Was clear that Cavic was first Thats main reason why I dont like Phelps. Judge yourself

Posted by magatt966: @jovi you are right about this but it was not a Phelps fault, he made his race as usual.
I would like to like Bolt, but he is too much stronger than everyone else that there is no satisfaction in being a Bolt fan....same for Phelps.
I agree on the first one, and I understand Jovi as well.
The Bolt thing is not to compare him to others, but seeing him as a man who changes the limits of human possibility. I was very disappointed he didn't break his previous WR. It was clear he would win, no excitement there. But being "pushed" by so much tough competition this time, I really thought he might get near the 9.50s mark. That's the "fan" aspect of it for me, at least.
Posted by 3pokeronly: The medal tally above includes winter games, I tried and failed to bring this up to date for summer only and failed. No gold for me!
That makes almost no difference; it's still the same 38 countries...
