That attitude can cost him a lot of Money. In sports, having patience means to keep training harder and harder til you meet your objectives. But, although practice is very important at the poker tables, he will need a big background support if he’s able to loose again and again until he gets good results. After saying this, i can’t figure what should be more difficult: to swim for a medal or to play for a bracelet…

Ha yeah I saw this.
That's a nice profit obviously but I agree that I could see him losing money. He seems a very confident and cocky guy, which is good, but too much and you can lose a lot of money with an ego sat next to your self.
Competitiveness doesn't equate to a winning poker player but he is obviously hugely disciplined from his swimming days where he was just a beast.
well he has the discipline in swimming which is very useful to poker...but if he is cocky that would be dangerous and the ego is also one thing that make you lose money specially in cash game tables....GL for him.....maybe a poll last time maybe swimmer can also be good poker players.....

i spotted michael phelps at fox poker club in london while the olympics were on. He was at a private cash table with none other than Phil laak and Antonio Esfandiari, laak and phelps arrived together to join antonio. I had already congratulated antonio on his big win and got his assistant to take our picture together (facebook brag lol). i didn't want to disturb them but badly wanted to meet laak. everyone there was more starstruck by phelps but it was all about antonio for me. he is a true class act and more than happy to get a pic and have a quick chat, unlike other so called professionals hehe. anyway just wanted to share and thanks for reading

friends have a reason to worry- gambling is not sport, where you are judged and rewarded for hard work- you can put as many hours as you want and still end up a loser at the tables, so phelps picked a wrong passion to pursue i think- better stick with golf or something similar- but hey it's his life and money- so it's his own problem
I think he has a "background" to do this kind of stuff. Probably just wanted to have some good time playing poker. He can afford it so nothing wrong with that. I don't think it's his next career move. As someone already mentioned might just be marketing move.

This is one guy we will all have to look out for. He is bound to have a massive impact in the poker world as he did in the pool. I dont think I would want to come up against him. Have you seen him? He's huge. Every game he plays he has HUGE HANDS!
Surprised his so called 'poker carrier' did not take off. Also he started swimming again, then got another DUI, went for a rehab then came out from rehab but did not showed up this year at the swimming world championship 'cuz he was banned by USA Swimming last year. Sure an interesting tabloid hero this guy became. Like Bruce Jenner.

now he is on poker?first he didnt beat Milorad Cavic and he wasnt first who touched omega wall!then he was on drugs, like idiot and now he play poker and wants money from there?wow!
I am not sure what to say here - I mean even Mark Spitz stated last year, that someone from Omega even sent him an email detailing how Phelps did not win that 100 butterfly final but they brought him out as a winner by 0.01 seconds anyway - how is that even measureable? And the fact that this guy is gambling like Michael Jordan back then is funny too.
